George Best

Recommended Posts

Oh ... 12.15 pm tomorrow.

Just before the news.

Try putting George Best's details into the deathclock and see what the result is ...

DOB 22/5/1946

Height : 5 ft 8" (Weird Site)

Pre-Illness Weight : 168 lb

Current Weight : 84 lb.

I've assumed, he's pessimistic.

Seems pretty acurate! You're the winner. Your prize is George Best's liver! ;)

I thought it was rather funny how all the newspaper frontpages were in memorium to George this morning and he wasn't even dead yet.

They could at least have waited.

I've only just discovered that my mother saw him play in 1972. She went all dreamy describing his amazingly blue eyes, and didn't take too kindly to my remarks about his amazingly yellow face.

The winner of the "Guess the time of Death" comp, is The Yeti.

No prize just a big helping of kudos.

Official time of death 12.55PM.

Is there a single national newspaper that doesn't carry a big picture of Besty on the cover today?  The Torygraph has a special 12 page souvenir supplement.  And unless I'm very much mistaken, he ain't dead yet.  No wonder he got so ill, with that crappy doctor who's been pronouncing him moments from death for the past three weeks.

This tabloid didn't have him on the cover, if he had played for one of the Old Firm he might have been on it.

We needn't buy a newspaper tomorrow (except perhaps a Daily Record), we've read all about it today.

Watching the television this evening one could be forgiven for thinking that Best was some kind of legend as opposed to someone that pissed his life into an early grave.

Toast anyone?

Perhaps Elton could write a song for this 'Legend'.

Sad day for football fans everywhere with the passing of one of the greatest players. We will miss you George - it was one hell of a ride.

I had him in my Derby Dead Pool team - so I'm now 5 out of 20.

And it seems to me you lived your life like a piss-head on a binge?

Yes, I can't imagine 'King Kenny' Dalglish getting the same coverage (top item on BBC Six O'Clock News!) when he pops it or Keggy Keagle. It wouldn't have the same coverage had something else happened at the same time, like a hurricane/earthquake or US invading Syria/Iran/Whatever....

This tabloid (Daily Record) didn't have him on the cover, if he had played for one of the Old Firm he might have been on it.

That's a surprise, coming from what some call 'The Daily Mason' considering he was an East Belfast lad....

Isn't that the last rites (I believe it is spelt like that).

Never mind, as long as the Priest brought the 'spirit' with him.

I just thought I would get in there before the accuracy police. ;)

They completely ruined my Cu'rd Cream joke. How was I to know one spells Kurd with a 'k'....

Not front-page, admittedly, but global news - this from the New York Times.

Pop star? Have I missed something?

Pop icon,

Pop just being short for popular, nothing to do with music.

Ah! I see, thanks for clearing that up TF. Cerebus, FYI the link still works for me.
