Cheers Ali. I like the spelling mistake so much I might adopt 'Pesto' permanently:D

Yeah, it might adhere and add a certain colour and spiciness!

I was waiting for this to announce that, in spite of my earlier announcement not to participate, I submitted a team after all, after I realized that the rules DID allow for early scoring. I apologized to RottenAli.

Yeah, this early scoring thing could also be late scoring. Just an observation. As a dead pool manager I got an easier ride for letting in death row fodder on the Deathrace but it did few people any favours in terms of entertainment value overall. Not sure about the early/late scoring here because it strikes me the playing field is uneven. Potentially really uneven. What if some bunch of Chilean miners get trapped underground and then find themselves as ten unique picks entered hereabouts about 45 minutes before an explosion does for the lot of them? They'd all get named in the press and QO points would duly follow. I'd be much happier with one entry date for all.

Agree, I didn't care for that.  Start and end dates should be the same for everybody.

To start with, late entry teams are currently allowed 9 entry names and no subs.  Unwritten rule 46b states, if two or more people die together then the points awarded to both (or more) hits will be an average of what the combined scores would have been as single hits. Thus 9 hits (assuming they all got named in the artical) at an average of 25 points would only be 225 total.  Mary, you topped 400 last year. I hope that knowledge puts your mind at rest.

David Rockefeller points for Book.  35 basic and 14 unique points. Allegily as head of the new world order and all the death and destruction that went the way of the west I concurre that crimes against humanity bonus points are thus given out too. That's 3 times 14 and thus a further 28 points making 77 in total.

Martin McGuinness points will also be toting up for crimes against humanity.  Armed struggle without apologies pushes it beyond anything to chuckle about.  Toast bags 50 basic points, Prosperina 45.1 basic points and DDT gets 25 sub points.  Thus Toast pulls in an extra 30 and Prosperina an extra 28.

Two hits to add.  Worlds Oldest Person, Emma Morano provides points for two. RadGuy gets 35.1 points and Maryport bags 35 points. Plus a unique hit for LFN for the loss of his long time team member of Clifton James gaud-dam-it.  By the powers invested in me, by this parish, I do here-bye award 25 basic points, a unique haul of 10 standard bonus points and a Billy-Bob bonus sort of secret agent point.

Aye, half my team dead in mid-April. There's some nailed on fodder left in the talent pool; notably Bracknell and Downie but I'm mightily regretting Martin Peters' selection cos I'm now thinking he'll see 2018 even if he doesn't know he's seeing it.

Good going, MPFC. Of the two teams out in front, we have the following survivors:

Radguy

Errol Christie

Gord Downie
King Michael I of Romania
Gay Byrne
Stefan Karl Steffanson

Colin Meads
Valery Spiridinov

Maryport

Tony Booth

Billy Graham

Leah Bracknell

Gord Downie

Martin Peters

If Peters is likely to see 2018, there's always Bracknell, and, if she doesn't make up the 30 point deficit between you and RadChap, Messrs Booth and Graham have been tottering for a long time now. Errol Christie might be a game changer, though, and the Lazy Town guy certainly if he turns out be over optimistic.

There's also me:

msc

Simon Ricketts

Gord Downie

Leah Bracknell

Catherine Nevin

Paul Van Zandvliet

Rayya Elias

potential sub points for Errol

I think that's still a very strong team of survivors going into the last 2/3s of the year, but it'll need folk to die in the right order to maximise points and haul in the 56 point deficit.

Well then. Here is the team that will 100% win the thing this year. I know that without a doubt.

1. Mary Tyler Moore

2. Prunella Scales

3. Jimmy Carter

4. Tommy Chong

5. Doug Ellis

6. Sandy Gall

7. Robert M Pirsig

8. Lester Piggott

9. Glen Campbell

10. Murray Walker

2 subs in case any of these do not make the starting line

1. Jimmy Greaves

2. Gordon Banks

I'm definitely going to win this year...

Let's not forget the above confident prediction of victory - lots of time to go and plenty of survivors for JR.

Re msc's comments above; we're eating into the 112 odd point lead RadGuy snagged by going early and scoring with Carrie Fisher. So, exciting, eh?

Phew, I was beginning to think that msc would surpass me with a Van-Zan/Nevin double whammy.

But thanks to Emma Morano, I've maintained my lead.

But if I don't win, it's my own damn fault. I took the "order in which they die" thing too seriously and filled the later spots with 2017/2018-ers who MIGHT go in October, November, or December IF they go at all (Byrne, Meads, Stefansson).

Heh, could wind up in the funny position in December where a Stefan Karl death would be useful for someone in the DDP but not here.

For this pool I use the strategy of "pick a few terminal dead certs at the top, hope they go in a few months, then fill up the rest of the spots with random old people, hope they go of the flu some time later in the year, and also make sure some of these picks were on Hollywood Squares".

An inspired train of thought, but it's yet to fully work.

Hi RA, I need points for Bruce Langhorne please.

That's both my subs gone, meanwhile the nuns and priests who make up my main squad all look like they'll be in contention for a spot in my 2018 team.  Damned hard to kill off, these religious types.:pop:
