Lou Rawls

if so, this looks HIGHLY promising...

Good Job DLs !!!!

Just read that he died.

This proves that RESEARCH is very important in order to break 2003 DL record.

What amazes most is that his name was first mentioned on 16th of December, he almost didn't make the 2006 list.

There must be a site on the Internet that lists all famous people that have cancer

I'd like to suggest either "Lou Rawls over and dies" or "Rawls plug pays off" as the headline - bit slow, but I only thought of them this morning........

Rawls well that ends well?

Or perhaps some mutation about unwell. Give me a break, it's first thing in the morning.

Well done that man! An early hit is always a nice start of a new DL year.

Hurrah! An ace in the hole! Well done team!

Guess he won't be appearing on Stevie Wonder's Tribute Show after all...

I think you'll find he will be, as the show was pre-recorded.

Caught a snippet of aforementioned tribute tonight. It was, indeed, recorded in September. They kept the Lou Rawls bit in, adding a rider at the bottom explaining that he is now, in fact, dead, and that this constituted his last ever television performance. The rider also suggested that in his memory, programme watchers should donate tons of cash to UNCF.

It was a really good performance too - Stevie certainly seemed to enjoy it. Made me kind of weepy. :(

 LR ;)

Is January 6th the earliest ever date for a first DL success of the year?

Are you sure it wasn't the parting with the extra cash that borught on the tears?

I good question, but one that has already been asked - by me!

Could I refer the lady to page 5 of this very thread, and to an exchange between myself and GR. Your answer can be found there.

DWB

Mr. Rawls has spent a total of 6 days of the DL - an impressively short stay - very hard to beat I would say.

Interesting fact...

Amazingly Rawls' time on DL wasn't the shortest stay...Brian Johnston (cricket commentator) spent just 5 days on DeathList in 1994.

oh................

One Admin. did know!

It's just that another one didn't. And I really wasn't that bothered about trawling through every year's list to find out. Much easier to ask someone else!

DWB :o

No? I thought not.

DWB ;)

It was the late Queen Mother with 14 appearances.

I was mistaken as the Pope only had 12.

Rudolph Nuryev spent the same amount of time on it in 1993

Until reading through this topic, I had no real knowledge of the late Mr. Rawls; although, I seem to recall him assisting as an Emcee on a number of charity telethons. So tragic that he will no longer grace us with his deep rich voice.

It's my old place of work that types that stuff out. As I was the only avid deadpooler there, well, it's obvious they still need me! Perhaps I should offer my services (for a highly inflated fee of course).

And yes, I think we should tell them. Particularly if it comes from a 'distressed member of his family' who, when facing their first Christmas alone without Lou, found this to be hugely upsetting. Make 'em grovel and print an apology

Marvellous idea on the grieving relative, VT. May I suggest Mrs Eartha Rawls?

Or Roxanne Rawls :rip:
