I thought his heart operation was successful and that he is now recovering. I wouldn't have picked him...

I actually agree but, then again, I don't know too much about it either. Perhaps someone more informed could enlighten me?

Well, I believe it was quadruple heart surgery.

The initial operation has a 95-98% success rate. He survived.

As with all operations there is the risk of infection.

He is 79 years old so there is a chance it could slow him down a bit/kill him.

If the operation is successful and he gets through the surgery, he is likely to last at last another 10 years as far as his heart is concerned.

He also suffers from Diabetes, which combined with his heart problems is a very dangerous mix.

It then seems the number 2 spot has been badly cheated. I'm afraid the DL

may not get the proper complications that there looking for.

Perhaps they should have went with John Kenneth Galbraith. :evil2:

He was one of the greats of world football, inspiring Real Madrid to five European Cups in a row. He will be sorely missed when he dies, which hopefully will occur within the next 12 months.

I don't think he's very likley to die in the next year, until his heart attack he was still working as a sort of ambassador for Real Madrid, appearing at press confrences, greeting new players etc.

Looks like he's going to be a 2006 miss.

His pacemaker has been fitted and he is due to leave hospital soon.

I did an internet search this A.M. on Senor Di Stefano; and, there seem to be no recent health frights for him. Here's to his living several weeks more. Wouldn't it be lovely if he dropped sudddenly during the final hours of December? Has anyone on any past lists done so, or would that become a first?

Artie Shaw, in 2004, did so, dramatically, in literally, the final hours of the year.

Seeing as how it is curretnly World Cup Soccer time I felt it was only right to resurface Alf even though from what I read today while drooling over photos of him as a younger man, he apparently never played in World Cup. Of course this was according to Wrongopedia so it may not be correct. I did notice though that Real Madrid has now inaugurated a stadium with his name.

Last up I see he is scheduled to turn 80 next month.

The kit, haircuts and general grooming of the average footballer was a disgrace in those days Bruno. Even the international players looked like farmhands! Do you drool equally over current internationals?
