Oft-picked-by-YW-theme-teamer Rocky Sharpe died December 5 last year, only being mentioned by reliable sources now however.

Sad news.

Didn't qualify for my team last year or this (phew!) though I see he was picked up by another team last year and get a loss. Also sad if anyone picked him for 2020.

For those who want to enjoy his 1978 #17 hit Rama Lama Ding Dong again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsU8frpxJPM

One hit wonder as far as the UK is concerned. Robert Parker, who reached #24 in September 1966 (a very good month imo) the UK Charts with Barefootin',  dead at 89: https://www.fox8live.com/2020/01/19/barefootin-singer-robert-parker-passes-away/

First UK #1 single to use a synthesizer, as every trivia buff knows.

Yes...

Obviously. Outside has opened the door to remind you it's there!

In all seriousness....

Quote

The band formed in 1967, their name having been chosen by Barry Mayger who saw a coffee bottle (probably Camp Coffee) which contained chicory and this was shown on the label. He offered up the name Chicory Tip and it was accepted by the rest of the band. They were signed to CBS Records. They were originally known as The Sonics. The first few singles flopped, although "Excuse Me Baby" (a remake of a minor UK hit for The Magic Lanterns in 1971) secured the band its first appearance on the BBC Television pop music programme, Top of the Pops.

Sounds like they but about as much effort into that process as their songs.....

Another for Deathray's ire.

Barry Mayger, namer and founding member of Chicory Tip, dead at 73: https://www.kentonline.co.uk/maidstone/news/founder-of-70s-chart-toppers-dies-220454/

Son Of My Father (UK #1 1972): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXsSYS-flOs

I remember them.

One of those bands that got a chance to get a hit single, play TOTP then drift in to obscurity and finish up playing nostalgia shows in seaside towns at the local pavilion.
