That leaves Diana Ross as the only original member of The Supremes still alive. Do we have a thread for extinct band lineups?

No, but there were mentions of Ramones, Jimi Hendrix Experience and Motörhead in this thread.

As far as I know New York Dolls, Mama's and Papa's, Bee Gees and Lynyrd Skynyrd, are on their last original member alive.

Cedric Cotton of late 90s R&B act Ideal stabbed to death aged 46. One-hit wonders with "Get Gone" which got to #13 in the Billboard charts, an enjoyable enough piece of loverboy R&B with Spanish guitar.

Not ideal.

So as previously suggested, refer them to the thread about dead bands.

Ric Ocasek of the Cars dead at 75

Paulina Porizkova says she was so cash poor after her estranged husband Ric Ocasek died, she was forced to rely on friends to buy groceries.

Porizkova had never signed a prenup with the Cars rocker in 1989, something which she now deeply regrets.

Ocasek died suddenly in September 2019 and Porizkova was stunned to learn that he had cut her out of his will, claiming the model had “abandoned” him. Despite their separation, the two still lived in the same home.

The “Her Alibi” star found herself in a precarious financial situation.

“I got two mortgaged houses and the pension, but no way to pay for anything,” she explained. “So obviously things had to be sold, but until they got sold, I had nothing to live on. I literally went through a year of asking my friends to buy us groceries. It was not a good position to be in.”

Louis Clark, I think a man more responsible for the ELO sound than Jeff Lynne, died aged 73.

Other than Paul McCartney, with a little help from his friend George Martin.

Anyway, here's an obit for those who like that sort of thing.

Music producer Ari Gold, dead of leukemia at 47

That would have been one for my 2022 Rupaul's Drag Race theme team, as RuPaul was the mentor of him.

Gawd, that’s a throwback and a half and a bit of a shock.

I was familiar with him over a decade ago during the MySpace music era. Acts like him and Colton Ford had a huge following in the gay community and were expected to break the mainstream, like Mika, Lady GaGa or Sam Sparrow, but ultimately never did.

Be interesting to see if he QOs.  He seemed a promising selection a couple years back but then fell into ‘fraud’ category to me.  Ah well.

So far it looks like just religious and industry publications. We shall see.

There were hints over the past several days he was on his way out. Shame for the Cup players.

Francois Cactus, one half of German kitsch popsters Stereo Total, dead at 57. If you think you don't know any of their songs you're wrong:

What?

I love Stereo Total, listen to their music regularly, saw them live a few years ago... this is really sad to hear!

I think your assertion has a regional limitation.

Still not getting over the death of Françoise Cactus of Stereo Total :(

Listen to their music today a lot and stumbled over one of my favorites: Cinémania.

The text is similar to Vogue or We didn't start the fire, a list of actors and filmmakers in this case.

Please listen and enjoy!

Miles Cooper Seaton, a founding member of the experimental rock band Akron/Family, has died. Dead Oceans, the label that released Akron/Family’s final albums, confirmed the news. His cause of death is currently unknown. He was 41.

As Akron/Family’s activity wound down, Seaton continued making music under his own name, issuing projects like 2013’s Notes from the Interior and 2015’s Functional Music Vols. 1 & 2.His last album, 2017’s Phases in Exile, featured collaborations with Brad Cook, Phil Cook, and M. Geddes Gengras.

I had never heard of these guys before but this is utterly brilliant!  As happens sometimes I discover a band through its demise (a member’s death). [BTW of all the iterations why haven’t we an ‘experimental music’ thread for the Throbbing Gristle Laurie Anderson Residents types?  No please don’t.]
