S Club 7’s Paul Cattermole has died aged 46.

I know it's a slow news day and I'm a grumpy old man, but it's not like he's a megastar such as H out of Steps or the guy second from the left in the Backstreet Boys. I'd struggle to pick him out of a lineup featuring a tub of guacamole and a game of Whac-a-Mole to be honest. Yet there he is, lead story everywhere.

So, on behalf of Paul Bearer and Sir Creep, may I just say .... Who?!

Could be a drug and or alcohol overdose or a heart attack.

They're a manufactured band who pretty much did what they were told to, maybe the ticket sales for the upcoming tour needed a boost

Cool. So do you think that being able to talk on behalf of Sir Creep is a good look?

He reached for the stars too young, now it's too late to bring it all back, time to Say Goodbye, since he's no longer Alive.

What a load of sentimental bollocks. He was kicked out because his dad had been or was about to be jailed for noncing.

A search has been done but nothing turned up.

Report here of the death of one of the keyboardists and producers of KWS, Chris King, who died back on 22 March 2023: https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/news/celebs-tv/ilkeston-former-brit-award-winning-8305187

Who?

Well, they only had a huge #1 in the UK in May 1992 with Please Don't Go:

How the major press haven't picked this up is a mystery.

Obviously I have to post The Script's UK #1 (September 2012) Hall Of Fame (though I prefer Breakeven):

Peter Callander who co-wrote Billy Don't be a Hero for Paper Lace dead at 74

Tony Blackburn mentioned this on Pick of the Pops on Saturday.

Cliff Fish, bassist with Paper Lace, reportedly dead, if true he would have been 73:

I never liked that Billy song - the story was sophomoric.  But hey.

Hitchin a Ride was a solid song but wasn’t noticed until Vanity Fair’s (admittedly better) version. This, however, was a good song from this forgotten band.  RIP

Cliff Fish report: https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/22056292/cliff-fish-dead-paper-lace-guitarist/

Cancer.

That means in the last month alone we have said goodbye to 5 UK Number One hitmakers

Cliff Fish

Chris King

Paul Cattermole

Ian Bairnson

Mark Sheehan.

Yet Jonathan King and Gary Glitter still live.

C. Fish and C. King members of that very, very select group as well: people from Nottingham with a #1 single.

Not a good time for IIIs.

Report of the death of Otis Redding III (son of the famous Otis Redding) aged 59: https://www.soultracks.com/story-otis-redding-iii-dies

As part of The Reddings, he had a couple of minor hits on the Billboard Charts in the early 1980s, unsurprisingly their cover of Dock Of The Bay charting highest at #55 in June 1982 (not a bad version actually):
