I would classify Lynott more as a lead singer than as a bassist for this particular comparison. I haven't heard of the others but Burton and Sid Viscious would be the best examples by the sound of it. (Sid Viscious wasn't really able to play the bass in any meaningful way, but still).

That's a really bad diagnosis.  Survival rates for CNS leukemia are poor.  Definitely one to consider for next year.
