Look in the "Who is Here?" thread for some clues.

It's easier if you look in the "who's not here" thread. If they're not there, then they're not here,

...but for anyone who wants to chat with someone who is here, this is what I meant.

from NotaPotato:  If anyone wants to chat, there's a place in your member profile to let folks know your name on AIM, MSN etc.,

I think the info is available to the general ranting public, so some might not be keen on disclosing it, but I've yet to have a problem of that kind.

There is also the deathlist personal message service for those more intimate intimations which may not concern the general readership. (Although they may well interest some of us)

I hope I haven't broken any rules by quoting from a different thread.

This Java thing seems to cause too many problems to justify its use.

Chat is not such a bad idea I can't really see what this chat-box adds to the forum that cannot be achieved with a combination of

  • normal posts - which show the whole history of the discussion
  • PMs - except that storage space might not be sufficient
  • email
  • IRC - not sure how that works but it has been suggested here by scsibear
  • online messageboxes like AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo etc.

IRC.

Thanks, Hein.

I have to go to work now (no computers there!) but I'll study that link later.

Perhaps everything will have changed (again  ) by the time I get back.

You can't judge a book by it's cover

But you can tell how much it costs

Is that signiture of your own?

no, it's a quote from a song by Carter USM

I went online last night, no one was there, but then again it would have been about 4am GMT.

Although a nice friendly voice did say "welcome"

I am posting this in favour of the 'dead'chat room, as some members seem to be dismissing it as 'irrelevant' or, worse yet, 'frivolous'.

Based on a thoroughly useful discussion earlier in said chatroom, I have now subscribed to the Lakeside World Darts newsletter, in order to gets a heads-up on when tickets for the 2007 championship will become available.

See? Not only entirely useful, but also inducing of action.
