Ideas and possibilities for 2007

Recommended Posts

The former president of Zambia Frederick Chiluba is reported to be suffering from an acute cardiac condition. He is also facing corruption charges, which won't help his condition.

His wife was recently arrested on money laundering charges and the linked article states

"... Chiluba's wife was accompanied to the police by her lawyers and family members but the former president stayed home due to his deteriorating health."

Damn, that's one of my secret candidates for DDP gone now. He's allegedly far iller than just an acute cardiac condition, which is pretty bad in itself.

Thankfully I still have 7 or 8 secret candidates that DDT has not discovered yet. :P

i'm not really happy about secret lists... i mean, this is a forum to discuss possiblities... and some of the names must have come up already. or they must be more unfamous that David Beckhams ex-bodyguard (who died this week - RIP)...

Only if Football Fan shares his 2007 list with the rest of us. :)

Real Madron, my secret possibilities are famous enough, don't you worry. Ultimately by 1 Jan 2007, they no longer become secret & can be used for future possibilities.

I'd happily reveal my secret candidates if everyone else did - for I know I am not the only one who has a joker up their sleeve. Unless that changes, I see no reason to reveal my hand :)

Bugger, I haven't got any secret candidates, should I have?

I just take careful note of others suggestions and evaluate their potential to die sometime soonish.

But you're right about one name leading to others, it's amazing how the obvious can be missed. :)

All my secret possiblities end up carking it before I even get a chance to include them on any list :)

Just a few names I've been thinking of.

Clarissa Eden, Countess of Avon, now 86.

Mary Soames (formerly Churchill), now 84.

Yuri Averbakh, 84-year-old Russian chess player.

Aage Niels Bohr, 84, Danish joint winner of the 1975 Nobel Prize in Physics

Mike Banks, 84-year-old mountaineer and climber.

Erkki Aaltonen, 96-year-old Finnish composer.

Salleh Abas, 77-year-old former Lord President of the Federal Court of Malaysia.

Looks in fine fettle judging by the documentaries about the Suez Crisis on TV at the moment but I suppose age is not on her side.

See VT's notes re. Mrs Eden, except of course I didn't see Bohr in Suez. :)

I've had four secret candidates this year. Hiroo Onoda was one of them though, he was also the least likely to die and didn't have a strong place on my list anyhow, so I'm not too choked up about that one.

I kept quiet with Mirza Hussain until the CPDP, but I didn't figure he'd be around for the 2007 DDP. :)

I've got two that I'm hiding now, but it's not like the information isn't out there.

On the flip side, I have shared some decent candidates (Fred Saberhagen, James Van Allen, Tsien Hsue-Shen etc.), so I don't feel too guilty. Besides, given my current standings in the DDP, I'm sure no one is racing to hear my opinion. :)

Yup, just learned of a possible today, to keep up my sleeve.. :)

If Sandy West, may she rest in peace, can get a UK obit, the possibilities are endless.

I have managed to convince myself that obits editors of UK newspapers read this site so they can get the necessary tribute written up well before someone dies. I know it is standard practise in the press for obits to be prepared in advance, so DeathList could potentially be a useful resource. Am I truly insane or does anyone else think this? Anyway I'm rambling and not entirely fit to operate machinery at the present time.

All I meant to post was that Hilly Kristal, the founder and longtime owner of iconic New York night club CBGB's has lung cancer.

Joseph Murray - performed the first successful kidney transplant, getting on a bit but will he get an obit.

The 'secret' members of my DDP 2006 teams turned out not to be unique and very alive to boot. A hit who has been chosen by all other teams is better than a live unique pick.

regards,

Hein

It would be very odd to think otherwise.

I mentioned a week or so ago that DL is becoming a fairly good agency for deceased celeb news...

it depends on the members and whether there are a few journos amongst our ranks...

I think this guy had better watch his back.

After all, there does seem to be a trend regarding people who make claims against the Royal Family. I'd say he'll be 'declared insane and take his own life'.

By the way, since when were bastards allowed any place in the line of succession. It's all this PC crap isn't it?

the guys that write the obits have probably got lists themselves, they are about as qualified to predict deaths as anyone. and they could easily write obits into the newspapers that wouldnt normally get there purely just to get a hit.

I know one (a specialist) for the Telegraph newspaper. One of my 2007 secret candidates would be on the periphery of getting an obit or not if he dies & his only hope would be a broadsheet. A little gentle persuasion will bring me DDP points, should my chosen one depart this earth.

Bwa ha ha ha :D

Re the media types; it's a two way street. They've got to fit lots of work into limited time and the links posted from sites like this make it easier to get an inside track on some obscure celebrity. It's no wonder we get the odd bit of tabloid coverage.
