Seeing as tomorrow is the Jubilee

It's interesting that tomorrow is the Jubilee.

The Queen actually became Queen by virtue of her father dying on 6th February 1952.

Her Coronation was on 2nd June 1953.

So tomorrow is 69 years since her Coronation or 70 years, 117 days since she became monarch by virtue of being the next heir to the throne.

So what is the relevance of 2nd June 2022 or what happened on 2nd June 1952 that makes tomorrow the Platinum Jubilee day?

It's during half-term so the kids don't get any extra time off. They're basically creating a whole generation of republicans.

I believe it was so they could move the end of May bank holiday to the start of June in order to produce a four day weekend, which makes more sense.

Also, can't celebrate a Jubilee in winter! You need to factor in British weather.

It's no half-term north of the border. B)

(Although, I'll be working from home with a chatterbox asking 10000 questions, so swings and roundabouts!)

It would not be appropriate to celebrate on the anniversary of the accession, because it is also the anniversary of the death of the previous monarch - usually a parent of the incumbent.

As mentioned, it needs to be in the summer because of the weather, so the date of the Coronation is quite fitting in this case.

Unfortunately the beginning of June tends to be rainy.

Its the bloody yanks - 6 Feb  in UK is 2-6 in yankeeland, and 2 June is 6-2, hence the confusion.

This is going to irritate a lot of you, but the first day of Summer is 21st of June.

I take no notice of weather forecasters changing it June 1st,just to make their job easier  to explain the seasons.

The date has no significance.

A 4 or 5 day bank holiday weekend in February would be shite though. There's a 1/5000 chance it might not rain in June.

BBC have given a further heads up on who to expect in the form guide that is the balcony picture tomorrow (has it actually been confirmed the Queen is attending Trooping the Colour tomorrow? She's been out and about more recently so I'm assuming it's likely, but I thought confirmations would be coming on the day?)

17 expected to appear:

1. HM The Queen

2 and 3. Prince Charles and Camilla

4 and 5. Prince William and Kate

6. Prince George

7. Princess Charlotte

8 and 9. Princess Anne and Tim

10 and 11. Prince Edward and Sophie

12. Lady Louise

13. James, Viscount Severn

Perhaps of more interest to the likes to us:

14 and 15. Duke and Duchess of Gloucester

16. Duke of Kent

17. Princess Alexandra

Did the BBC forget that the Cambridges have another sprog, or has Prince Louis left for a life in California too?

Incredible to think I just about remember the Silver Jubilee in 1977. We had a street party where the entertainment was a man with a beard playing an organ in the street.

Now 45 years later I have a partner with beard in my bedroom wanting to play with my organ.

What goes around comes around.

The tendency for jubilees to be staged in the summer months also applies to coronations of course. Recently the monarchs have obligingly died at the beginning of the year allowing 15 months or so to plan for the coronation the following year (George VI was simply given the date originally allotted to his brother). But Charles is screwed if the Queen goes in say, November. It would only allow a few months for his coronation to be organised - you'd think it would have to be August at the latest. No way would he wait until the following year.

Let's have a flag count. I live on an estate of  63 houses and after a quick walk around the total is one Union Jack and no bunting whatsoever.

Also no street parties planned.

Yes, what's going on with Louis?  He's been missing on the last few occasions.

Here he is on the balcony in 2019, held by William.

He's in the carriage to and from Trooping the Colour, so I assume he's going to be on the balcony. But that makes 18 by my count (I missed him off the list as without him it made the expected 17 and he seemed the most obvious omission of the possible guests). :scratchhead:

It's not an illness, it's an ailment. She's got mobility problems, most probably back-related. She's clearly still sharp, but her body is playing up, as it often does at 96-years-old.
