Watching Memorial waiting to see how Queen looks but always annoy me do programmes like this as they make out Royal’s (Phillip this time) are saints they couldn’t get further up their arses if they tried.

The BBC can't seem to win at this.

On a day like today the tone will need to be respectful and dignified and I admit it can sometimes feel a little too forced but there are so many vultures waiting to pounce on any lack of respect

There is a place for a serious look at the place the Royal Family occupies in our society and constitution but this is not it. However, when they do approach it in a serious journalistic style such as the recent Amol Rajan documentry about Prince William and Prince Harry everyone gets all upset

This is an important point for all people who are pushing for constitutional reform. A rational debate needs to start as soon as possible because the circus following the Queen's death will drown out all those voices

Based on this photo I do not think the Queen is a 2022 hit. However Four rows back The Duke of Kent looks like a walking sack of bones

Andy doing his "bride or groom" routine there.

As an aside, Edward appears to be wearing well for someone close to 60. Can see him living a long life.

Very deliberate walk into the Abbey from the Duke. More of a hobble really. But he stopped to talk to the military volunteers outside and came in the "long way" through the West Door, unlike the Queen, so he's clearly still got decent mobility.

Deliberate?    I thought he walked as if he'd shat himself.

He is 79 ffs!

Millions of people don't make it to 79, he is having a good run.

The notion that living to a very good old age is something the runs across the whole family is bollocks.

He may be on his way out or maybe it is because he is old and not as physically strong and sturdy as he was.

Doesn't mean that he is going anytime soon.

Prince Edward is son of the Monarch so is a Prince.  His children are not called Prince or Princess because Buckingham Palace announced when Edward married his children would be styled the children of an Earl, hence Viscount Severn.  However when his  children reach 18 they can choose to be called Prince or Princess.  But it’s highly unlikely and they will probably work for a living.

Though he won't be a Prince, James, Viscount Severn may ascend to a Dukedom one day. It is widely understood that when Charles becomes King, Edward will inherit his father's title of Duke of Edinburgh. The title passed to Charles on his father's death and will be in the monarch's favour to pass on when he is King. The reason Edward was styled an Earl and not a Duke was that he would eventually be the new DofE, with Charles Prince of Wales and Andrew Duke of York. This would also be fitting with Edward's patronage of the Duke of Edinburgh's award scheme. In that case, James would likely ascend to become Earl of Wessex and his eldest son would be Viscount Severn.

That plan has been scrapped now it was reported in the press last year. Charles doesn’t want to reallocate the Dukedom of Edinburgh.

It was more the holding on to Princess Michael through much of the walk.

I haven't seen that.  Can you give a source, please?

I can't read the paywalled one, but from the other link it doesn't sound as definite as you say.  If it was Philip's wish, I can't see Charles "scrapping" it especially while the Queen is still alive.

But maybe there's more to it that hasn't yet been disclosed.

Seems a bit petty if that was to be the case. The title means nothing to Charles, it will be lost among the many other lower ranks of the monarch, and Edward was specifically not given a Dukedom like Cambridge or Sussex for this reason.

It's possible that Charles might want to retire the title as a tribute to his father.   Although it seems odd to go against his expressed wish.

The Dukedom of Edinburgh may be one they want to retain for a more senior Royal in the future.

Given those rebellious Scots…
