25. Queen Elizabeth II

Nah. Statement says she's been back at Windsor since lunchtime today and she was already back working at her desk.
She just needs to slow down and stop working as much; she's nearly 96. It'll just be exhaustion.

This. I suspect there's been something unexpected, either a dizzy spell or a spot of high blood pressure or something that's given them pause for thought. They've told her to rest, then out of an abundance of caution (because she's the Queen), they've put her under observation for a night and done some blood tests or whatever and now she's home. Perfectly understandable for a 95-year-old. Especially one who's been as active as she has over the past few weeks. As for Covid, the only thing that's been made clear about her condition is that it's not Covid-related. But I can imagine they're keen to limit her exposure if cases continue to rise over winter.

Ah well. We'll know how serious it is depending on the grin on Charles' face at his next outing.

I don't think she is in immediate danger though.Clearly something wrong but doubt it's too serious.Just odd they aren't telling us much as they normally do.My guess is they don't know but any 95 year old in hospital raises one eyebrow slightly .

The Queen spent Wednesday night in hospital for preliminary medical checks and is now back at Windsor Castle "in good spirits", Buckingham Palace said.

The 95-year-old monarch returned from hospital at lunchtime on Thursday, the palace said.

The Queen was said to be "disappointed" after cancelling a visit to Northern Ireland on Wednesday.

She was given medical advice to rest for a few days, after a busy schedule of public engagements.

In a statement on Thursday night, Buckingham Palace said: "Following medical advice to rest for a few days, the Queen attended hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some preliminary investigations, returning to Windsor Castle at lunchtime today, and remains in good spirits."

The Queen was seen by specialists at the private King Edward VII's Hospital in central London, about 19 miles (32km) from Windsor. Her admittance is understood not to be related to coronavirus.

The overnight stay was said to be for practical reasons and the Queen was back at her desk undertaking light duties on Thursday afternoon.

The King Edward VII's is a private hospital in London's Marylebone used by senior royals, including the Queen's husband, the late Duke of Edinburgh, who received treatment there earlier this year.

It has been a busy period of official engagements for the Queen.

She was pictured hosting a Global Investment Summit at Windsor Castle on Tuesday evening alongside Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

An official record of the Queen's diary showed at least 15 other formal events during October.

On Wednesday, a Buckingham Palace spokesman said the monarch had "reluctantly accepted medical advice to rest for the next few days".

He said the Queen was "disappointed that she will no longer be able to visit Northern Ireland" - which would have involved an overnight stay.

She is expected to lead a royal delegation to the Glasgow COP26 climate change summit in two weeks' time.

Earlier this week, the Queen declined a magazine's award of Oldie of the Year, saying "you are only as old as you feel".

She "politely but firmly" turned down the award, but sent the Oldie magazine a message with her "warmest best wishes".

God save the queen is trending on Twitter and got anxious for the moment then until I realised most people were then referencing Sex Pistols or Freddie Mercury.

You can imagine Windsor would have a full time medical team so probably a series of scans/x-rays.

‘Preliminary investigations’ could mean alot of things but with a history of cancer in her family I can imagine they are being extra vigilant.

I wonder what the odds are of Charles doing the Christmas speech this year?

Not saying this is the case, but many spouses that were married long periods of time have been shown to die within a short time frame of each other. Some famous examples are Johnny Cash (Sept. 2003) and his wife June (May 2003) or George H. W. Bush (Nov. 2018) and his wife Barbara (April 2018). I think the Queen seems extremely healthy for her age, but there could be many things behind the scenes we do not know about. One could be her heartbreak over the death of her husband Phillip and the desire to rejoin him.

Nothing to worry about, probably some minor heart issues.

Anyway I insist not only she will never become the oldest living state leader, but she won't even be the last standing of the 6 born in 1926.

She might outlive Nicholas Witchell given the state of him these days. Though I like the hedging his bets black tie just in case.

Interesting comment on the “in good spirits” line always used by Buckingham Palace. Doesn’t mean anything really - Prince Philip would have been described the same way even in his final days……

When Charles left his mic on at that photo op and bemoaned how awful Witchell was and the BBC reporters had to cover this "scandal", you could tell most of them blatantly agreed with Charlie's summation of the guy!

I think she looked well in the last photos. However, a sudden health problem could have emerged at this age ...

The calendars and diaries will all be printed already so it would be difficult administratively but all bets would be off because we do not know what the mourning arrangements will be

thing is, this usually happens way more often to Men who's wives died, not so much the other way around

Covid bubble aside, I'm not sure The Queen and Philip actually spent much time together in recent years.

Not to mention she's not exactly retired from public life and gone into mourning. Busier than she's been in months, engaged in issues, as on the ball as ever. Like everything else she's taken Philip's death in her stride. It wasn't, after all, particularly unexpected.

And she's been looking particularly happy and smiley too.  I think I said earlier that she probably feels like a burden has been lifted as he was in poor health for so long, and she doesn't have to worry about him any more.

What truth did they cover up? There's nothing wrong with waiting until she's back home before revealing she's been in hospital overnight. If the Mail want to know why they kept it hidden, it's so their photographers weren't posted at the back door with a long lens waiting for her to leave.
