honez 79 Posted February 1, 2005 ... How can you predict someone's death? ... I know how totally destructive & consuming heroin addiction is & how it f*cks you up .... erm... That's how we can predict someone's death. If they're abusing class A drugs, then there's a better than even chance they'll be popping round to Mr Reaper's place for a cuppa and scones pretty soon. And as for: What do you do if he dies - have some kind of happy ceremony and pat yourselves on the back? GET F*CKED the lot of you. I suppose we'd mark the occasion as we each see fit. Some may have a happy ceremony. Some may have a pat on the back. And some may be lucky enough to get f**cked that night. Who knows? Who can tell? But one thing's for sure, we'll all be happier than both you and Pete will be by the sound of it. Thanks for stopping by.

Guest Amanda Posted February 2, 2005 Yup, me again. You are all totally sick! Tell me, what do you know about addiction? Heroin doesn't become a choice each day, it becomes a necessity where you have to have it to function each morning - so you can get out of bed, so you can brush your teeth, so you can sit writing bullshit on pointless websites all day and night... Do you have these same delightful thoughts about members of your family? Why because Pete's a heroin addict should he be written off? How hurtful do you think he might find this were he to read it? Do you spend your evenings and weekends wandering around graveyards? In fact, what kind of problems do you have in your happy cosy easy lives? Need to wash the car? Whose turn is it to take out the rubbish? Need a haircut? You should wake up and see the damage you're doing.

Anubis the Jackal 77 Posted February 2, 2005 Ah, where to start... Tell me, what do you know about addiction? Quite a lot unfortunately, I've seen friends suffer but I've also seen friends come off heroin and lead 'normal' lives. It's not impossible. Do you have these same delightful thoughts about members of your family? What 'delightful thoughts' are they? I'm glad no members of my immediate family are heroin addicts if that's what you mean. Merely pointing out on a website that long-term heroin addiction is more than likely to end in an early death is not exactly evil. Why because Pete's a heroin addict should he be written off? How hurtful do you think he might find this were he to read it? Maybe he should read this. Let's face it, Keith Richards is pretty much the only musician who has managed to keep a career going and be a junkie. Most go the way of the 'Stupid Club.' or fall away to self-obsessed rubbish about how the world is so cruel. Do you spend your evenings and weekends wandering around graveyards? Well, that's what they are there for. To remember those who have died, and to contemplate our own mortality. Try Highgate Cemetery. It's a very moving place. In fact, what kind of problems do you have in your happy cosy easy lives? Need to wash the car? Whose turn is it to take out the rubbish? Need a haircut? You should wake up and see the damage you're doing. A wild guess and almost totally wrong in every respect. Just because Pete Doherty is a songwriter it really doesn't mean that his problems are any more different than those facing the rest of 'us' day in day out. Guest Amanda Posted February 2, 2005 Look, I'm not here to argue, I'm replying to stand up for heroin users. Do what the hell you like, say what the hell you like, but don't expect everybody to agree with you. If your MOTHER or SISTER or GIRLFRIEND or whotever was a heroin addict - this particular heroin addict we're discussing, then how would you feel? You're deliberately spiteful & hurtful & what I don't think you seem to grasp and as I've said before, heroin addiction is not a choice!! Were it to be so damn easy to get off the stuff then there would be no heroin addicts would there. It f@cks you up psychologically also & reading this stuff would, personally, push me right over the edge. We all like a laugh and a joke, but some things are just taken a little too far! You look for something positive on the internet re: Pete and this is what you stumble upon!!! Incidentally, congratulations to your friends for succeeding in getting off the heroin. People don't seem to realise it's not like giving up fags or alcohol etc. And when phyiscal pain is involved (and that's just a small section of the pain you go through) you would do ANYTHING, and I mean anything to make it stop. Heroin addicts aren't so bad. They're misguided & stuck in hole that gets deeper and deeper.
Tuber Mirum 125 Posted February 2, 2005 Look, I'm not here to argue, Yes you are! Are, are, are, are, are! Do what the hell you like, say what the hell you like, but don't expect everybody to agree with you. I don't think Anubis or anyone else on the DeathList expects everyone to agree with him, though we are for the most part like-minded individuals and generally agree with one another. Or at least keep an open mind. You may be confusing us with US politicians. You're deliberately spiteful & hurtful That's a foul accusation to make against Mr Jackal who is one of the more considerate, literate and humorous contributors to this list. I'm sure if he has caused offence, he didn't mean to. It takes all sorts to make a world, it's always been that way and you might find you live longer and happier (if that's what you want) when you just accept that there are people who do and say things you don't agree with. Anyone in the public eye is liable to speculation about all aspects of their lives. We know you don't understand or like us. I probably don't only speak for myself when I say I'm not that keen on you. I'm sure there are other web sites where you will find more sympathetic company. I'm sure if he has caused offence, he didn't mean to. If I did intend to be spiteful and hurtful I would have posted exactly what I thought about one of the aforementioned friends stealing a not particularly valuable heirloom from my room which was all I had left to remember my Grandfather by. Heroin users are not malicious or evil but using heroin has a tendency to make people deceitful, dishonest and let's be honest, pretty dull company.
Death Watch Beatle 41 Posted February 2, 2005 Sorry to interupt this cosy little chat, but did anyone happen to see the Daily Mirror today? (Mr. Alive, I happend to glance at a colleagues FYI). Pete on the front page looking like a zombie. Then all over pages 8 and 9 looking variously like drunk, junkie, zombie, DL candidate, the lot. I think he might be a bit too lightweight to pull a 'Keith'. He looks like he's on the rollercoaster to hell! DWB
Guest Amanda Posted February 2, 2005 Oh boring boring boring!!! I'm just standing up for Mr Doherty!!!!!!!!!!! Yes to everything, but all I am saying is - you are mean! Alright? What's wrong with that? The reason I have been writing here for the last couple of days is because comments here made me feel the need to. Isn't that what these are all about? Respected my arse anyway.
Josco 49 Posted February 2, 2005 I suppose it's a little late in the day to ask 'who'? Until this I started reading this I had no idea who Mr Doherty is, much less who the 'Libertines' are. Never heard of them, but it is fascinating stuff all the same.
The Four Horsemen 26 Posted February 2, 2005 Not wishing to play Devils Advocate, but in light of correspondance above Amanda does seem to be a superior class of drive-by. Articulate, willing to respond and not resorting to gratuitous personal abuse (compared to some - see Emlyn Hughes, Richard O'Sullivan, Alex Higgins et al). And willing to argue a corner. I still feel that she hasn't grasped the basic concept or raison d'etre of the DL but credit where credit's due, it makes a refreshing change to have an almost mature discussion with a passing ranter. Now, if only we could get her to register.......... I saw the pictures in the Mirror (while I was buying my Guardian, before you ask), and he doesn't look at all well - do you get bonus points for a death under the age of 60? Guest Guest Posted February 2, 2005 Superior class of drive-by? Thank you! I like it! Buying your Guardian?!! You just made me choke on my lunchtime Pimms! I shall nip out and buy the Mirror this afternoon, though what's all this about bonus points? Don't you find the photographs distressing? Of course he doesn't feel well - he's pumped full of opiates!!!! Maybe I'm stupid, but Pete Doherty and similar make me want to help ... be the hero and all that rubbish ... I certainly wouldn't wish death upon him. Doesn't looking at the pictures of him make you frustrated that you can't help??

Her remark: Respected my arse anyway prompts one to remind her that one usually gets more respect when one doesn't come in arse-first like she did. I hope she joins us. PS: Note the correct spelling of "arse". She is obviously British, or perhaps Canadian or something else civilised.
Guest Amanda Posted February 2, 2005 British - born in Wales 1980. What would joining up entail? Sacrificial beheading of virgin goat or similar? Arse first helps - my head's been battered in the past and still wears the scars.....

The Four Horsemen 26 Posted February 2, 2005 Arse first helps - my head's been battered in the past and still wears the scars..... I beg to differ if attending a Village People concert. And surely initiation ceremonies are something that the all-powerful admin team should look at? Possibly deliberately antagonising drive-by ranters or initiating dicussions with potential meteorologists might work........
Guest Amanda Posted February 2, 2005 Oh PLEASE! Wales is lovely! I don't live there & I haven't for a number of years, but it's a superb place - very attractive (in parts), very friendly (and not in the animal way) & pretty safe, which are 3 things which I don't currently feel about the place I'm residing in, or in fact anywhere I've lived since. Anyway, isn't it people from the Forest of Dean (Gloucestershire) who are supposedly worse? Trapped in their woodland villages, cut off from the rest of the civilisation....? BUT BACK TO PETER - I have purchased a copy of the Sun (my local Shell garage has run out of The Mirror) and YES, he looks totally wasted, but d'you know it kind of adds to his appeal. On the hand you want to mother the poor little mite & on the other hand you want to drag him into bed (or maybe the other way around).... No? Maybe just a girl thing. For Godsake don't wish death upon him.

Josco 49 Posted February 2, 2005 For Godsake don't wish death upon him. We don't wish death on anyone , that's the point. (I could make an exception in the case of a one eyed scottish twunt, an MP @ No. 11)

Grim Reaper 186 Posted February 2, 2005 Interesting exchanges indeed... It does occur to me that Pete's excessive coverage in the media over the last year is basically all about the predicting his death - very few articles, of course, have the balls to say that. The Libs might have been an OK band and Pete a decent singer/songwriter but that simply doesn't justify the column inches he's generated. At least there is no hidden agenda here as to what is really being said. I'm sure a lot of people see his addiction as an illness and its worth pointing out that we don't discriminate here - a large proportion of the people discussed on these forums are discussed because they are ill - I will however concede that there is a bad bias toward old people
