Bibliogryphon 9,586 Posted February 27, 2017 Not so sure Brian says it wasn't by mutual consent. There was a discussion about this on Feedback on Friday (just after Last Word)

msc 18,476 Posted April 5, 2017 Both he and Carrington did feel like certs to go this year, unconsidered by me for the DDP solely on age grounds. More surprised (surprised not complaining, mind) neither made the Deathlist, but then Radio DJs might not be their thing.
Redrumours 861 Posted April 5, 2017 My first hit ,I hope it's not my lot for this year. RIP Brian.
Bibliogryphon 9,586 Posted April 5, 2017 When I heard that he was challenging the BBC version of events about his removal I thought I had made a mistake in playing him as a Joker in the Jokers Dead Pool.
Thatcher 2,417 Posted April 5, 2017 As if by Easter Miracle, Brian Matthews has been resurrected. First they boot him out of a job, then they kill him off before his time.

Toast 16,144 Posted April 5, 2017 Says it all about the rapid decline of BBC standards.
msc 18,476 Posted April 5, 2017 It's surprisingly easy to make the error*, actually, even with double checking sources sometimes, Usually the person is on road out, and trusted sources confirm the exact moment of death by error. *Spoken from experience. To top it, not only was the person not dead, they rebounded and lived another six months.
Toast 16,144 Posted April 5, 2017 Yes, but the BBC have always delayed reporting in case of mistakes. At the expense of being later with the news, I don't think they've been caught out often.
msc 18,476 Posted April 5, 2017 Agreed. It could have been a cast iron source though (like a child or wife) who they trusted, and who was confused by the events of the night. In which case, Matthew isn't ever going to find out about this. Unlike Joe DiMaggio, who saw his own premature obit on one of the major American news channels, and got pissed off - then died. Mind you, could be Marcus Garvey. 1940, had a stroke, read his own obituary in the newspaper which said he was "unpopular and alone". Got such a shock, he had another stroke and promptly died! JQW 283 Posted April 5, 2017 I've heard of cases like this before, where a relative or friend reports someone as having died as soon as their life support system gets turned off, when in reality it takes a few hours or days before they finally pass on. maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted April 5, 2017 Matthew's mistaken death isn't quite up there with the others (where a person of the same name caused confusion). One thing we can take from him and Carrington is that DJ'ing is so easy that when you go on health/doddering grounds the Grim Reaper is already in sight. Matthew is critically ill and may well pay out for those who picked him before too long.
