F.W. De Klerk

Recommended Posts

Former South African President, F.W. De Klerk is in hospital. The 70 year old has a history of being a heavy smoker and drinker and is suffering from colon cancer. His condition had worsened on Wednesday, after having surgery, but he is now in a stable condition. He is definitely one to keep an eye on.

F.W. de Klerk to have tracheaotomy.

That is definitely not a good sign.

It looks like it. I don't expect he'll do a Suharto.

He'd be a nasty miss, though. You can never trust them, those politicians.

regards,

Hein

88 year old Helen Suzman doesn't sound too full of life, quoted in the same article that covers De Clerk's return to work.

I thought he looked pretty well at the funeral today. Seems to have overcome any health issues he previously had.

Not heard from this white african for a long time, may be worth a 2018 pick.

Still very active. Spoke at a public event against Zuma a few months back. Spends most of his time travelling the world as part of his charitable organisation. I would rule him out for another 5 years.

I'd say DL and Drop 40 cert in 2022 if he survives that long, but at his age and prior I can't see him making it out of 2021 now.

I read the article and they don't seem to think it's an immediate danger, but yes, reading his previous cancer fight, and the family history, 2022 might be a little stretch.

Today is his 85th birthday too.

Met the man about 4 years ago at an event. He was really nice, polite, stood and spoke to me for about 10 minutes then did the same with the rest of the room, which was noted by everyone after the event. That takes a lot of effort.

Absolutely- if he makes it that far.

Average survival rate for mesothelioma is around ten months, which would take him to January 2022.
