MIrella Freni is dead! :(

I didn't even put her on my lists, because  I thought she was the healthiest of the great old opera singers. :banghead:

https://www.classicfm.com/music-news/latest-news/mirella-freni-dies-obituary/

Edit: I have Leontyne Price, Zubin Mehta, Gabriel Bacquier, Richard Bonynge, Sherrill MIlnes, José Carreras & Fiorenza Cossotto on my lists. This means that they will survive this year, in all likelihood.

I forgot to put Christa Ludwig, Renata Scotto, Marilyn Horne, Placido Domingo, Martina Arroyo, Jane Berbié, Mady Mesplé, Reri Grist & Teresa Berganza on my lists. They're in grave danger, I fear. :crossbone:

Another edit: I'm apparently the only person on this forum who laments Mirella's death. I owe her so much. She starred in many tv-versions of famous operas throughout the 1970ies. I became an opera fan because of her. :rip:

Sir John Tooley, a former Director General of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden is dead: http://announcements.telegraph.co.uk/deaths/240281/tooley and https://www.telegraph.co.uk/obituaries/2020/03/19/sir-john-tooley-general-director-royal-opera-house-turbulent/

I only mention it because he's picked for the DDP.

I just found out, that Antonietta Stella (born 1929), one of the last great divas,  is still alive.

She looked very healthy last year, when she celebrated her 90th anniversary, but one never knows...

Edit: Met star Lucine Amara (1924), who sang with Corelli & Richard Tucker is also alive.

...and so are Grace Bumbry (1937),  Martina Arroyo & Gwyneth Jones (1936).

Telegraph obit for Sylvia Morris, opera singer who performed for both Hitler and the Queen. Later joined MI5.

Quite a fascinating read. I didn’t think there was anyone like this still around from that era. I guess she was off radar for not having a Wikipedia page.

She would have turned 100 on Monday.
