Maybe I am dense, but...was it?

Last Word is part of the QOs since 2021, see the first post in the DDP 2021 thread.

msc also pointed everyone to the Last Word web page which is a QO:

From my sickbed, @YoungWillz, it was changed and announced last year for this years competition. Has to be written down on the last word page. One new qo players had asked for, along with the return of the independent.

Ah right, I do need to know for Poker Tournament purposes.

Must have passed me by, I recall such obits being disqualified in the past.

Yes, true, there was that BBC music catalogue page that didn't count. Still doesn't.

Is she the first Last Word Q/O?

So far, the first Last Word Only QO, yes, but I don't know, she might get one of those backlog Times obits. Just like she seems a sort of "quiet times Last Word" obit. There weren't many big names in the past week.

I might even change the DDP obit because the Last Word link is less precise. She has received a couple of obits now.

It seems we are in total "backlog obit" mode right now. No high-profile deaths in a week or so. I'm surprised we haven't seen a tumbleweed on here lately.

Not a good year for Irish poets.

True, but its a saving grace for a poorly performing Irish-themed DDP team.

Teaching and up for fun times - DL Cup in May, then

Profile wise, I'm guessing she'd generate DL Cup points - https://wordsforthewild.co.uk/?page_id=8898

Call me old-fashioned, but splitting up prose into short lines doesn't make it a poem.  If it sounds like prose when you read it out, then it's prose.

I'm sorry to say that my

breast cancer has spread to my liver

so I'm now under palliative

rather than curative care.

It’s a total sod

but Ollie and I

are surrounded by love,

grateful for every moment we have.

Meanwhile, I'm Very Much Alive:

well, teaching and up for fun times.

He also had a career as a veterinarian for farm and ranch animals.

He would have been on my Cup team had I advanced.
