Such has been the everlasting memory Id be tempted to attend this years one If I were to be indulged once more. No problem and if you are really lucky I will throw in a couple of 'there's been a murder' for you . I get that quoted to me everywhere I go and I have not yet met anyone that can mimic it perfectly, many friends try, some are good, some are passable but most, downright laughable. Accents are funny things and the Glasgow one is one of the hardest to mimic.

Lady Grendel 139 Posted February 28, 2013 It is unlikely I will be organising the Scotland meet up this year, my father had a further fall while in hospital and fractured the other part of the hip he fractured in January, the operation to fix it would most likely have killed him, we refused permission. He is being treated 'conservatively' now, pain management and comfort being the main aims. I am not online very much now because I need to be able to attend my work, visit my dad and provide support for my mum, although that has found us ordering old TV series from Amazon. Mum and I never watch TV together before but we are sort of enjoying that. I have asked Rotten Ali if he will think about organising the Scotland meet up, I will be on hand for advice. I cannot do July at all, and can't do the start of August.
Rotten Ali 600 Posted February 28, 2013 I know many members have you in their minds at the moment LG. Tough times are often a feature of a loving family life. The burden of having someone so close having to endure the worst, ill health, part of life is rough for many to go through. Wish you and your Dad well. On matters thread like... The 2013 DL Con... I'll have a go at seeing what we can pull together, but I know it won't be a patch on what you could have put together and I'm sure it been a wonderful LG production. OK, so DL Con VII (Canterbury really has to be judged as Con VI because of the turnout) is to be in Scotland. I think Edinburgh is most people's ideal to be the backdrop city (however the Glasgow, 5th Oct, original idea still has some merit) but the venue will be even harder to get right. Remembering that with the Fringe and Tattoo on in August it is a busy period for Edinburgh between the 2nd and the 26th. I'm interested to hear what our Scottish members have in the way of good ideas about what venue may work well for a DL Convention. Should it be a countryside or Golf venue instead? However high summer dates are tight if we pin down the middle to the end of August. I have plans in motion between the 17th to the 26th August so for me that opens only two weekends about the Saturdays of the 10th and 31st Aug. Beyond that it is Oct 19th or 26th (but now clashing with a holiday of mine and the Indian Grand Prix). Or find a compromise weekend some any old time in the latter half of the year. Travel options look like car, coach, train or plane. No matter which, I feel each method could open up interesting and fun chances to travel to the Con together with other members. We could all keep abreast of each others progress and turn it into an homage to a Top Gear challenge. Anyway over to those who count...

I can certainly look into appropriate venues in Edinburgh, whether I get any time to check them out or not beforehand only time will tell. I work with a couple of people who do a lot of socialising in Edinburgh so I can easily ask them about suitable places. A venue (or venues) should not be a problem in Edinburgh, it's a brilliant city for socialising. The only thing I will say is that the Edinburgh Festival takes place during August which may mean accommodation in the city itself could be hard to come by, but the city centre is within easy distance of outlying towns where you will only have to spend maybe 1/2 hour by bus or train to reach it, even Glasgow is only 45 minutes away by train. If you have never experienced Edinburgh during the Festival then you are in for a treat, it really is fantastic, very busy but there is so much going on everywhere. All the dates you have suggested are fine by me, it's only July I can't make as one of my elder brother and his family are coming home from Tasmania for a holiday that month. Thank you very much for taking this on, I really appreciate it RA.

Lady Grendel 139 Posted February 28, 2013 So the 3rd of August is back in play too? I don't think so, I am sure I am covering for a colleague's annual leave then. I will check on Monday and let you know.

Now you tell me, was down in Etchingham today, practically round the corner from yers and your convention. I'd say on past form four is a convention.

Now you tell me, was down in Etchingham today, practically round the corner from yers and your convention. I'd say on past form four is a convention. Close but no cigar... Buy all means its a very nice get together but it's not only the high quality attendees but also an element of accessibility and considered planing that goes into naming an event as a de-rigure DL Con. Buy all means it can hold a title such as DL Con 6.4 but I can't believe it can be retro fitted with the Roman numerals.

Rotten Ali 600 Posted June 15, 2013 When can you get along?
charon 4,943 Posted June 15, 2013 Probably have 6/7 weeks to take but not before late late July. So be hitting for a fortnight late July early august, but will have to do an enforced tour of kintyre , arran, the weeg and prestonpans. Though if conference later I could possibly adjust. Lady Grendel 139 Posted June 18, 2013 There has been no interest in the DL Con in Scotland charon, so no plans have been made so far. Very disappointing as when mooted there was quite a lot of interest, August was suggested because Six could make it but she hasn't replied.

Rotten Ali 600 Posted June 18, 2013 Short list I've started penning... Hotels... Charlotte Square, EH2 4HQ Easy Hotel, 125a Princes Street Royal Mile Apartments, 01835 823248 Saturday Lunch... Ryan's Bar, Hope St, EH2 4DB or Red Coat Cafe at Edinburgh Castle Then... Watch the panda shagging at Edinburgh Zoo Maybe down to St Andrews Square at Razzo Coffee house Then... Pubs... Two or three including, Jekyll and Hyde (goth), 112 Hanover St, EH2 1DR Crash late... Then flounce round the National Gallery of Scotland on Sunday morning. Now lets all try and find the best date... And hone the above tentative plan.
Lady Grendel 139 Posted June 19, 2013 Sounds pretty good to me. As I have said before I am available right through August apart from the first weekend. If we do want to see the Pandas shagging, I would recommend a hungover Sunday morning for that, we have to book, of course if we miss them we can swig a few brews as we watch the Zebras get their 'Thang' together and the Malayan Tapirs doing 'Gangnam Style' with heavy notes on the Zzzzz's. I think this could be interesting and great fun, those of us who have attended the London Con's and took it to Amsterdam can testify that 'anything goes'.I love the idea of flouncing round the National Gallery. Thanks RA, I look forward to seeing you in a few weeks time and not buying you a lemonade!
Six 23 Posted June 19, 2013 I'm available all through August and am ready to book myself into a hotel once a date is set. I, too, love the idea of the National Gallery, although I don't know how to flounce, so maybe you could show me, LG?
Tuber Mirum 125 Posted June 19, 2013 Hm. The only good date in August for me is the first weekend. When LG can't be there Another possibility might be the 31.08/01.09 or the weekend after that (which has the advantage (?) of avoiding the Edinburgh Festival). Don't make it dependent on me though. Checking my diary, it would appear that I'm unavailable until the last weekend in September, by which time the flouncing season will be over . I could possibly make the weekend of 17-18 august (as its the weekend nearest my birthday).
