I'd be more worried if I'd be the desposts who live and receive treatment in UK and France, as two of them already died. Among them Nigeria's Yakubu Gowon who lives in London, Abdou Diouf who lives in Paris and Pascal Lissouba who lives in the South of France.

Pascal Lissouba reportedly dead: https://regionweek.com/former-congolese-president-pascal-lissouba-passed-away-at-88-in-france/

Kenneth Kaunda (former Zambian president) is 97 next year. Perhaps he will live to a greater age than Robert Mugabe?

Well...yes. Mugabe was 95 when he died. Mission accomplished.

In a year that has been awful for Somali Prime Minister,  90-year old Omar Arteh Ghalib is reported to be ailing and likely bedridden.

Also Siad Barre's last prime minister (and Barre's last prime minister alive, too)

Sadiq al-Mahdi, Prime Minister of Sudan from 1966-67 and 1986-89, has died from Covid-19 age 84. After being ousted in two coups, he continued to serve as Leader of the National Umma Party.

CNN finally give it as breaking news.

Not surprising. Mahdi was not a simple politician, he descended from the original Madhi, who proclaimed himself as a Messiah for Islam, and Sadiq himself was considered (sort of) a prophet. He was overthrown twice, last time by Bashir. Madhi was a reformer, but his governments were characterized by internal disagreement and generalized corruption. An iconic figure in Sudan anyway.

So here's who went to Bobby Mugs's funeral and who didn't. Kenneth Kaunda was there though he needed aide to stand up, aide provided by Nigeria's seemingly ethernal Olasegun Obasanjo. BTW a Zambian prophet has predicted KK will die before his 96th birthday like Mandela and Mugabe (and Jawara I add). Also there were Sam Nujoma (who will be with us for a long long time) and his lapdog Pohamba.

What are the notable absences? Daniel Moi, Ali Hassan Mwinyi, Cleopa Msuya, Abdoulaye Wade, Abdou Diouf, Yakubu Gowon weren't there. I'm surprised about Mwinyi who took part to Kaunda's 95th birthday just a gew months ago. Just personal reasons or something is up?

Sam Nujoma hospitalised with COVID-19, reportedly "stable". He has contracted it from one of his bodyguards, who is already dead. COVID previously killed Nujoma's sister.

Another bodyguard of Sam Nujoma is dead, this time he shot himself in the head.

The rona is finally storming Africa. We should expect some more despots to die from it. It didn't work with Nujoma though.

PS - I think I’m going to start a Christmas tradition, all those dying on Christmas get the angel/bell emoji above.  Settled <gavel>

Just remembered Fikre Selassie Wogderess's death and was wondering how many former Ethiopian rulers are alive.

I checked and there are only four:

The oldest and worst one of course being old Mengistu. Still alive at 83.

Mulatu Teshome (b. 1957) is the only other former head of state alive. He was the president from 2013 to 2018.

Tamrat Layne (b. 1955) prime minister of the transitional government between 1991 and 1995 is still alive, too. And of course Hailemariam Desalegn (born 1965) who was the prime minister between 2012 and 2018.

Tanzania's President John Magufuli is being treated in hospital in Kenya and is in a critical condition, opposition leader Tundu Lissu has told the BBC, citing well-placed sources.

He has had coronavirus and a cardiac arrest, Mr Lissu said.

Mr Magufuli, who has not been seen in public for 11 days, has faced criticism for his handling of Covid-19.

The 61-year-old president has called for prayers and herbal-infused steam therapy to counter the virus.

If the BBC are reporting it, they'll be confident it's beyond mere heresay. The media in Tanzania have been ordered not to mention it, of course. Another despot on the deathbed.
