The absolute monarch of a feudal country funded by the apartheid government has been reported ill for many times during the last 20 years. Had some mystery illness in 2001 after apparently being poisoned, reportedly critically ill in 2020 (of course this was denied by the royal house) and was hospitalized with COVID at the start of this year. Thanked Taiwan for sending antiviral medication that could have saved his life. Also

He has also outlived 9 of his Prime Ministers.

The country, currently lead by Faure Gnassingbé (b. 1966), longtime bizarre dictator Gnassingbé Eyadéma's (1935-2005) son. After Eyadema's death, Faure was the President for 20 days as the would-have-been acting President Fambaré Ouattara Natchaba (1945-2020) was out of the country. Faure resigned on 25th of February and Abass was the President until the 2005 election where Faure was elected and continues to be the Pres. of Togo.

 

The only living former President of Togo is Emmanuel Bodjollé (1928-Unknown) who was the head of state for 2 days in January 1963 after the coup lead by him killed Sylvanus Olympio (1902-1963), the country's first leader. Gnassigbe Eyadema claimed to have shot Olympio himself.

Valentine Strasser (b. 1967), earliest living President of Sierra Leone (from 1992 to 1996) and infamous despot known for recruiting child soldiers and, well, being a dictator has recieved a house from the current President Julius Maada Bio (b. 1964) who overthrew him in 1996, was the president for a couple of months and won the election in 2018 becoming the president again.

 

Strasser has a history of alcohol and cocaine abuse and living in poverty as well as being gravely ill in 2019 and having his left leg amputated.

Tunisia's current president Kais Saied (b. 1958) who has recently suspended the parliament, kicked the prime minister and given himself more power looks like he's already dead. No wonder he's often called "robot" for not only looking like a corpse but also his drowsiness and how he always looks somewhat emotionless.

Kenyan County Governor of Kitui, Charity Ngilu (1952-) has been hospitalised with covid. She's one of the first female governors in Kenya (from 22nd of August 2017) along with Anne Waiguru (1971-) and Joyce Laboso (1960-2019) who died of cancer. Ngilu was also a presidential nominee in 1997, recieving 7.89% of the votes.

 

 

Kenya feels like a country that's going to have a lot of political deaths sooner or later. Some possibilities:

 

Mwai Kibaki (1931-) the only living former President (2002-2013) has had health issues, 90 in november and overweight.

Uhuru Kenyatta (1961-) Current President after Kibaki. Never looked like the picture of health, gained weight recently. At Kaunda's funeral:

Musalia Mudavadi (1960-) VP 2002-2003, said to be the likely next President of Kenya and Kenyatta's successor, but how long do you think this guy will live:

Moody Awori (1928-) Ancient. VP 2003-2008

William Ruto (1966-) Deputy President since 2013. Hospitalised in 2012, apparently was near death. Apparently also hospitalised atleast once during his term a Deputy Pres, there's been an assasination attempt on him.

Raila Odinga (1945-) Only living Prime Minister. He held the position 2008-2013. Blood clot in 2010, collapsed in 2019, had covid this march.

And there are many more frail or frailish Kenyan politicians.

Talks about a lot of things, including his parent's deaths, what a good Nigerian leader would be like and his relationship with the current president Muhammadu Buhari who Babangida ousted in 1985. Babangida himself resigned in 1993, after which Ernest Shonekan (1936-2022) was the president for a while until Shonekan was overthrown by kleptocratic dictator Sani Abacha (1943-1998) who died of either a heart attack or an assasination in 1998 while in power.

 

One of the 7 former Heads of State of Nigeria, 6 of which are over 78 (if the current pres Buhari is included as former, having once lead the country before). Not even one of them seems to be in a really bad shape currently, as in October Buhari had a virtual meeting with all of the other six.

Sao Tome and Principe's current President, Evaristo Carvalho is in hospital after an illness and an operation. According to VOA he was operated for an umbilical hernia.

 

Sao Tome Principe's first President 1975-1991 and 2011-2016 Manuel Pinto da Costa (1937-) is still alive, same for first Prime Minister and second President Miguel Trovoada (1936 or 1937-) and Portuguese Sao Tome Principe's only Prime Minister Leonel Mário d'Alva (1935-). We might see someone from the country on the top 100 oldest living state leaders list in around five or six years.

Second dictator/president of Chad to die this year after Idriss Deby, Habre's successor who was killed while in office a few months ago.

Habré was also the first Prime Minister of Chad from 1978 to 1979.

Also was the mentor of Deby, who later ousted him.

 

 

The only living former President of Chad currently is Goukouni Oueddei (1944-) who was president twice, first in 1979 and for the second time 1979-1982 and was ousted by Habre.

All three were horrible people and human rights abusers. While Oueddei had the support of Gaddafi's Libya, Mengistu's Ethiopia and other communist countries, Habre had the support of USA and France. Deby was educated by Gaddafi's Libya but had the support of France and fought against Libya.

83 year old President of Guinea Alpha Conde has apparently been deposed in an ongoing coup and arrested by Special Forces. Amended the Constitution last year to give himself an extra term in office.
