Former England and British Lions scrum half Johnny Williams is suffering from the advanced stages of Alzheimer's. He doesn't remember his own name, is incontinent and has spent time in a secure unit after he was sectioned when he was deemed to be a threat to others.

Very sad to see this picture of Andy Ripley the other day. Almost as sorry I hadn't picked him this year. He looks doubtful for 2011.

Former Springbok captain Joost van der Westhuizen, 40, has been diagnosed with motor neuron disease.

 

News reports today say he has between 2 to 5 years to live.

 

Joost van der Westhuizen says that he doesn't care what anyone thinks of him anymore, following recent speculation about his private life. The next day, his estranged wife alleged that he has been having an affair with his neurologist.
