He would have got kudos for starting a thread that didn't really last too long.

I don't know the answer to your question but I do know that there are no English, Welsh, Scottish or Irish international players who are anywhere near as old as Roper or Tweedale, which is probably why it hasn't come to attention.

Here's what I gather who could be the oldest players from each countries

Mick Lane                    Ireland                 3 October 1926

Courtney Meredith     Wales                   23 September 1926

Ken Smith                    Scotland              2 June 1931

Doug Baker                  England               29 November 1929

Pierre Danos               France                  4 June 1929

That's some excellent work.

Smith was born in 1929 as per the ESPN website. The Scottish birth records also confirm this.

Found more older players. They only played for their Home Nations but not for the Lions side.

Tom Danby      England     10 August 1926

Iain Ross          Scotland    15 December 1958

I know it's just a typo, but it's 1928 instead of 1958

Bob Cooper, infamous rugby league player for being suspended 15 months for joining in on a brawl has died at 67 after a battle with cancer.

Also, today I learned that Aussie Yahoo does not transition to UK.

Bob Cooper did get a Mail obit though for future reference.
