The Dead - 2007

Recommended Posts

From the world of motor racing first, THEN into film:-

Val Musetti, Bruce Kessler, Boris Said, Stefan de Groodt, Joie Chitwood, Jon Herb, Speed Gardner, John Wunderlich, Hideshi Matsuda, Louis Tomei, porbably quite a few more.

There's a lot more the other way, of course including potential DL picks Paul Newman & Walter Cronkite.

Michael Schumacher is making a good job of playing a twat in the latest Fiat commercial.

Nothing new there, then.

This is what I love about this place, it's educational service. I'm quite a fan of Bond, but had never heard of this bloke or the 1954 version of Casino Royale.

Right, I'm off down the boozer at opening time to win free beer with my new trivia knowledge...

Cheers,

BHB

Well, last year MPFC got a hit from Henry Beachell a short time after he turned 100. Well this year, the honour goes to research astronomer Dorrit Hoffleit, who has died less than a month after turning 100.

Good for her. Personally I've never heard of her or the AAVSO - then again I'm not the Oxbridge sort...

The diarist and author Joan Wyndham has died. She was, according to her obit in The Telegraph:

"An aspiring actress, heroic drinker, jitterbugger and Benzedrine-fuelled bohemian, she enjoyed an outrageous reputation; later she held court in "Swinging London", where her circle included jobbing rent boys, April Ashley, Michael Foot, Christine Keeler ("rabbity teeth"), assorted acid-trippers and Jeremy Beadle."

Maybe the assorted acid-trippers were just hallucinating Jeremy Beadle?

Reports, so far unconfirmed, suggest that Alan Johnson, the kidnapped BBC journalist, has been executed.

Don Ho - Hawaiian Crooner dead

Beat you to it in the Do Ho thread.

Having more than smug to say this afternoon, however, Audrey Santo, the brain-injured girl who could allegedly perform miracles, has died.

Probably not even heard of in the UK, since it's much more of a U.S. fascination, but she did spend 19 years in a comatose-like state. Granted, she was in poor health like Sharon to begin within, but even a quarter of that time would mean he's got a few years left in him...

Robert Whitney has died. You won't recognise the name, perhaps not even the face. But Whitney, an actor, who has died, at the age of 94, after losing his cancer fight is, to millions, instantly recognisable. One of Morecambe & Wise's funniest sketches was in part honour of him. A lot of you here who know he was without realising it. And, what makes this all the more remarkable is that in his most famous moment, he never uttered a word.

Who was he? The policeman in the "Singing In The Rain" dance number with Gene Kelly.

Good point but it should be said that after an impressive start my 'Old and in the Way' theme team is showing an impressive stickability. Beachell aside, it's those at the upper end of the age bracket who've cashed in the points. Harry Patch and Henry Allingham - for example - are still soldiering on.

Bring on that long hot British summer, eh?

Jack Williams, one of the most widely used horse stuntmen in the film industry, has died aged 85.

http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/c...3&cset=true

He appeared (often uncredited) in many films, such as "Gone with the Wind", "The Magnificent Seven", "Paint Your Wagon", "Cat Ballou", "Spartacus". See his IMDB entry for the complete list:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0930810/

He doubled for Errol Flynn, Kirk Douglas and Charlton Heston amongst others.

"During his heyday as a stuntman, Williams was best known for having trained his horse to fall dramatically on cue at a given spot as if it had taken a bullet or arrow" - yes, I think we've all seen his work at some time!

I'll argue that statement. I think it's safe to say that no actresses aborigine or otherwise ever appeared on Prisoner Cell Block H.

I very much doubt I'll be hooked, I watched a few episodes to while away the hours when I worked security.

I was never hooked, I'd watch them if I forgot the book I was reading at home
