Death Watch Beatle 41 Posted November 25, 2007 Don't think he will see-out 2010! It would be quite profetic if it would be the year of his death. Why would it be prophetic? It was 2001: A Space Odyssey. It was the first sequel - the full series is: 1. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) 2. 2010: Odyssey Two (1982) 3. 2061: Odyssey Three (1985) 4. 3001: The Final Odyssey (1996) DWB Edit: If he makes it to 2061 I'll buy a hat and eat it. Aah.. being the sci-fi ignoramus I am, I only thought there was one book. Will they have any hats left in 2061? It's difficult enough to get one now.
chicago103 41 Posted January 11, 2008 Poetic irony if he were to die in 2010. Personally I hope he makes it and contributes to a successfull deathlist year in 2010!
Draxxis Zane 0 Posted February 23, 2008 : / Didn't think he was this old. Seems the only people I ever see on this deathlist that I recognize are either movie stars or I learned about in english class...

Banshees Scream 110 Posted March 18, 2008 Here is the confirmation. It's probably the shortest obituary I've ever seen in my life. I think we have a record breaker. http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5ijDA5bg...S1Tq1wD8VG3BKO4

IKYWN 6 Posted March 18, 2008 Sky News has it http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30200-1309902,00.html Sci-Fi Writer Arthur C. Clarke Dies Updated:22:00, Tuesday March 18, 2008 The science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke, who wrote more than 100 books including 2001: A Space Odyssey, has died in Sri Lanka at the age of 90, according to an aide. Clarke, who had suffered since the 1960s from debilitating post-polio syndrome and sometimes used a wheelchair, died after suffering breathing problems, said the aide, Rohan De Silva. Clarke lived in Sri Lanka, where he moved in 1956 after embarking on a study of the Great Barrier Reef. He was regarded as far more than a science fiction writer. He was credited with the concept of communications satellites in 1945, decades before they became a reality. More to follow...
Handrejka 1,903 Posted March 18, 2008 There's a brief audio interview with Patrick Moore talking about his "dear friend Arthur" on the BBC. Thought he sounded ok but you don't know what this news will do to him Anyone else think it was a bit mean of the BBC to phone and elderly chap at this time of night to say more or less "One of your oldest friends has just died, could we have your thoughts"

Ran about 5 seconds of asian kids playing in the dirt followed with the narration (something like) "There were numerous allegations of inappropriate behaviour regarding minors levelled at him in the past, although none were proven.", but certainly stopped short of calling him a notorious paedo. Anubis the Jackal 77 Posted March 19, 2008 The Aussies, however, are far less recitent... Like many writers, Clarke sometimes generated headlines that had no connection with his writing. Most notoriously, in 1998 the London Sunday Mirror published a report in which Clarke was quoted as saying that he saw no harm in pedophilia, provided the child had at least reached puberty. He furiously repudiated the views attributed to him, the paper subsequently retracted and an inquiry by police in Sri Lanka, where he lived, found no grounds for prosecution. But the innuendo continued. In part, this was because of Clarke's reticence about discussing his sexuality - a marriage in 1953 had broken up after six months, and later scandal-hunting journalists presumed he was gay (though when they asked he said he was merely "cheerful"). And, in part, the innuendo arose from the fact that he lived in Sri Lanka, which the scandal hunters insinuated was a pedophile's paradise and where rumours, though never proof, abounded. Clarke always claimed he had moved there for the scuba diving, a sport he loved.
