Zimbabwe's Vice President Joseph Msika, 86, is in hospital. The official explanation is a rather vague statement that he is "unwell", but he suffered a stroke last month and is believed to be suffering complications after recent surgery.

Joseph Misika must indeed have been unwell. So much so that he's just died.

Another bastard off the face of this earth. Maybe Mugabe will do us a favour and go next.

John Nkomo, one of Robert Mugabe's most trusted aides and a favourite to succeed the late Vice President Joseph Msika, is reported to be suffering from cancer and undergoing intensive chemotherapy. This report from December of last year says he has a malignant brain tumour.

More Mugabe health gossip.

Sources say Mugabe was suffering from prostate cancer and had taken a week off to fly to the Far East for a "medical emergency." Sources say the country's leader of 29 years is determined to stay on and contest the next elections despite suffering a number of fits in recent months and collapsing at State House recently. "He is prepared to contest them from his deathbed," one official said. He is understood to have travelled to the Far East with his wife, Grace, amid reports he is in "serious condition."

Looks like Peter Tatchell's mate is on his last legs: Mugabe losing the battle against cancer.

He was a candidate back in 2004, one of DL's better years, but seems to have slipped under the radar since.

regards,

Hein

Dictators seem to go on forever....I wonder if it will be all change or more of the same in Zimbabwe after he dies?

Difficult to predict, that. The prime minister, Morgan Tsvangirai, seems a nice bloke, but should he become prez (not bloody likely) he might turn out a nasty dictator himself.

Hein

the State House has been equipped with state-of-the-art resuscitation facilities.

I'll bet his police chiefs are loving that. When they're not helping the old boy they can batter some political opponent to the brink of death, revive him, and start all over again.

Never ceases to amaze me how absolute power corrupts absolutely...Let's hope that Tsvangirai doesn't fall prey to corruption if he becomes president(big if!).

I think it's quite likely that Tsvangirai will gain the presidency - after a lot of turmoil to get rid of Mugabe's cronies in the Zanu-PF, that is. Not sure as to whether Tsvangirai will make a big difference, but he seems a more likeable chap than Mugabe (who doesn't?!) so I would give him a chance.

Mugabe's health seems to be on the decline. There have been a lot of stories like this in the last few weeks. I think the DL committee should consider having another punt on him when they gather to consider the 2012 list.

Seeing that this thread had been posted on raised my hopes that the bastard was dead. Still, I guess it would be better (for the DL if not for the people of Zimbabwe) if he did survive until 1st Jan 2012, assuming of course he was put on next year's list.

Solomon Mujuru, former leader of Mugabe's guerilla forces during the Bush War, has died in a fire at his home. Completely coincidentally, he was under house arrest at the time for his role in a plot to oust Mugabe.

Mugabe is holidaying in Asia with his family: http://www.newzimbabwe.com/news-6798-Mugabe+holidaying+in+Asia/news.aspx

Or perhaps...

Ailing Mugabe has been rushed to Asia for medical treatment: http://nehandaradio.com/2011/12/26/ailing-mugabe-rushed-to-asia-for-treatment/

I think he'd be a brilliant candidate for 2012.

Excellent choice, IMO. It'd be his second time as a DL candidate.

Hein

Call me sentimental but Fidel Castro deserves a slightly higher place in history than just being a dictator.
