President Robert Mugabe's former teacher, Sekuru Oscar Munyoro Katsukunya (120) has died.

Katsukunya, who could have been one of the worlds oldest people, died in his sleep this morning.

Lying about his age; well, Robert learned from the best.

He was 120, why do you always have to put down the black man creeper? If it were mother theresa's teacher pretending she was 140 you would not bat an eyelid.

Well I would Robert, but thanks to the surgery you kindly arranged for me 'so I could see more clearly'; sadly I'm lidless. How's my old farm doing btw? Still following my helpful notes on crop rotation? Not so sure on that 'organic' fertiliser you left - those thigh bones are a devil to plough through.

As one could already guess by his recent health troubles, Robert Mugabe's chief opponent for the last 17 years, Morgan Tsvangirai has colon cancer:

This probably gives Mugabe the motivation to outlive him.

Doesn't Tsangirai have his own thread somewhere hereabouts?

I'm guessing he's enough of a non event that we could just merge it with Mugabe at this late stage

On second thoughts I can't find the thread mentioned above - maybe already merged.

I had vague memories of calling it Morgan Tsvangirai / Time to die or summat like that

Tsvangirai is definitely taking a shot at Mugabe not being honest about health issues.Definitely put Mugabe back on the list next year.Don`t want him dying when he is off the list like Patrick Moore.

Unverified claim he's copped it: https://www.zimeye.net/unverified-report-claims-mugabe-has-died-mid-air/

Ah, the coming hours of denials, followed by him tripping down some stairs....or perhaps being carried away in a body bag...let the speculation begin.

Plz die Robert Mugabe. Plz die Robert Mugabe. I want your death to be as sad as Gene... Nah.

I might have forgiven him, if we hadn't been explaining our one and only rule to him last night.

Just today's update on Mugabe. You'd be alone thinking he's going anywhere anytime soon.

Hmm

"Mugabe (92) has already set his sights on the 2018 elections where he would be seeking yet another term in office despite his spectacular failure to fulfil promises he made in the previous elections."

Do any of our resident experts hereabouts know the age of the oldest winner of a "democratic" election anywhere on Earth?

Wikipedia has a list of the oldest serving term-bounded state leaders. Among them, only one, Hastings Banda of Malawi has ever been older than Mugabe, but he has lost his last, and arguably only democratic election in 1994. So Mugabe's last should be the record for a country leader.

Among other office holders, Storm Thurmond (born 1902, died 2003) has served almost until he died (2002) as a Senator in the US Senate, last elected at the age of 93 in 1996.

Woah, thanks

Storm Thurmond can - probably - claim the most morally defensible democratic mandate in that company, eh?

Well, senate elections in the US were reasonably democratic by the '90s, though some people could still point to his segregationist record as a senator (and Dixiecrat [think UKIP² of the late 40s US] presidential nominee) to question his moral character.
