The left-leaning black revolutionaries / freedom fighters in Mozambique (Frelimo), Zimbabwe/Rhodesia (ZANU), South Africa (ANC) (etc.) mutually supported each other against the oppressive white minority governments. They share a common history and ideological kinship. Even after Mugabe proved himself to be an unfit, undemocratic leader, many influential South African politicians like Thabo Mbeki refused to distance themselves from him.
