More than half of the England starting XI now playing football in the sky. Only B Charlton, Cohen, Hurst, Hunt and Nobby left. Beginning to think Nobby is going to outlive then all.

Wasn't Jimmy Greaves part of the 1966 team also?

Squad yes but not in the final XI famously.

Worth noting while there's only 5 of the England team in the final still batting and that includes Norbert, 8 out of the 11 West Germans are still breathing

I wonder if any of the remaining team and squad members will live long enough to see England win another World Cup? Seems like a tall order at present

As an Irishman absolutely heartbroken by this. He did so much for Irish football in finally getting us to the top table after many years of falling short or some cases   literally cheated

Jack and Bobby will outlive the lot. Not because of health reasons. Just out of stubbornness and spite. One will never concede to dying before the other. It will be a long wait.

Then again...

I will forever remember him, not as a Leeds and England player or, for that matter, boss of The Republic of Ireland, oh no.

It will be for for having more hair down his neck than a Silverback Gorilla.

Extraordinary!

Same hometown as me, the closest I will ever get to being famous.

I remember him from "Jack's Game" and being kicked off the Eske because he wanted to fish that day.

Bobby Charlton couldn't attend his brother's funeral today due to an unspecified illness.

It could be that but I do think he is ill also, personally think he has Parkinson’s disease, looked frail last few times seen him on TV also remember about a year or so ago he had to lay a wreath in the centre circle before a Manchester Derby with Mike Summerabe and he was shaking uncontrollably and Summerabe has to help him. Also not at as many United games this season even before the Corona Virus before he never missed one this year missed a large proportion. Probably a mixture of the two, but do think he will go in the next 2 or 3 years.

Quite likely although I have known of families were grudges and fallings out have resulted in them not attending a funeral. I am not saying that is healthy, it certainly isn't , but it does happen.

Anybody see the Hearse taking Charlton through the streets of his home town?

Did you see the 'Magic Tree' air freshener hanging from the rear view mirror.

Fucking class.

His wife fell out with his mother a long time ago and that was it basically. No doubt he does have health issues but I don't think he would have attended even if able to.

Nah they made up with each other a good few years ago. Illness is most likely genuine
