When you look at it like this, it's not overly shocking that so few are left and with the prominent exceptions of Ball and Moore, it's notable that by my reckoning 20 on that list made 75 plus. I'm not an actuary but statistically it does feel a bit odd that having got 20 out of 23 living to be 75 plus, none of them have so far made 90 plus. I suspect that's where the Alzheimers caused by the ball heading has really had an impact sadly.

German players were smart enough to make sure their bonfire was fully extinguished before going to bed.

The oldest three Germans have also all died so it won’t be till 2027 at the earliest if any of them make 90 either. Odds are surely one or two of their 14 still living with. 
 

The 1954 German squad had odd overall through with quite a few dying before 70 but two made 89 and one made 90 but that is eclipsed by England as Ted Burgin and Tom Finney made 91 and Ivor Broadis made it to 96. Ditto from 1950 Roy Bentley and Bert Williams made 93 (And Finney was in that squad as well.)

 

And Colin McDonald and Tommy Banks from 1958 are still alive aged 92 and 93. Bill Slater (And also Finey made 91 as well.

Interesting that there has been no comment from Sir Bobby Charlton about George Cohen’s death, i know he has Dementia but would of thought there would of been some word from his family on Sir Bobby’s behalf he must be pretty far on with his dementia now if not able even to acknowledge Cohen’s death.

Charlton has put out a comment about Pele though, or at least on his behalf. Denis Law, another dementia sufferer too:

Surely you mean 5/22 for England. Hurst, Payne and Callaghan may have a few years left in them. Charlton and Eastham not so much. 

 

Beckenbauer doesn't appear to be in great health despite being one of the youngest. Overath, Weber and Held are probably the current favourites to be the last surviving players who actually played in the final along with Hurst unless there's something I'm missing on their health. We'll probably have to wait around ten years to find out.
