Award-Winning Composer Jerry Goldsmith Dies

Recommended Posts

RK mentioned him in the Patty Andrews thread a week or so ago - good work RK!

I see...well, a quick trawl through this year's DDP entries reveals a few musical possibles:

Captain Beefheart (63, reportedly in ill health)

Jack Bruce (ex-Cream, 61, has had cancer)

Jerry Goldsmith (composer, 75, has cancer)

Vera Lynn (87)

Humphrey Lyttleton (83, but still touring)

Mitch Miller (93)

Oscar Peterson (jazzman, 78)

Tommy Steele (67)

Luther Vandross (only 53, but was in a coma for a while last year)

DWB

Trekkies won't be happy.

I wouldn't be entirely sure.

There was nothing wrong with his theme music, but after it appearing in 4 TV series and about half the flims, you tend to get a bit bloody fed up with his trademark twirls. In the end, they all sounded pretty similar.

Bit like the whole of the Trek universe at the moment really.

Not a good time form film composers - Michael Kamen last year, and I'm sure there was someone else this year but damned if I can remember who.

Didn't think to put him in my damn team though, did I?

Jerry Goldsmith's son Joel has died aged 54. He followed his father's career path and was the composer for much of the music in the Stargate franchise.
