I swear Best Mate's sudden death towards the end of 2005 got more coverage than even George Best or Eddie Guerrero's premature deaths the same month. Folk loved that horse.

Legendary trainer Michael Dickinson who had the first five horses in the 1983 Cheltenham Gold Cup on ITV's coverage right now. Looks and sounds well.

John Spearing has relinquished his training licence. 82 and now in a nursing home which seems quite the decline although the quotes in the article are attributed to him.

Menhammar Stud Farm owner and Harness Racing HOFer Margareta Wallenius-Kleberg has died at age 85.
Since 2007, Menhammar Stud Farm has been a leading breeder in Sweden and also has Sweden’s most prominent stallion, Maharajah. Margareta got to experience one of her finest moments on a trotting track when Maharajah won the Prix d’Amérique with Örjan Kihlström in the sulky.

Also noticed trainer Nigel Tinkler posted a photo of 1993 Chester Cup winner Rodeo Star on Twitter who is now 36. 

 

Both ancient in the equine world. 

Rodeo Star died yesterday aged 37 which for a race horse is the equivalent of a human living to about 110!

After two days of Spring Meet races at Churchill Downs, three horses have died. This is on top of Derby contender Wild On Ice who was euthanized Thursday following morning workouts.

Chasing Artie and Parents Pride, both owned by Ken Ramsey, trained by Saffie Joseph Jr., and ridden by Luis Saez, died following turf races at Churchill Downs.

The winner of the 129th Kentucky Derby has died.

The Kentucky Horse Park shared via its Facebook that Funny Cide, winner of the 2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, died on Sunday due to complications from colic.

However, his father-in-law, Peter Harris, never mentioned before on the forum according to a search, is still alive aged 89. As the current billionaire owner of Butlin's and the founder of Bourne Leisure, he is easily obitable.

Walter Swinburn's father, former Irish Champion jockey Wally Swinburn, is also still alive. He was born in 1937
