New article (last week, behind paywall) on Otis Taylor, mentioned multiple times here:

https://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/vahe-gregorian/article261494677.html

As mentioned here before he's been battling parkinson's and dementia for over 30 years, kept alive with different kinds of tubes for the last six or seven years, unable to move.

The actual news that his health has gotten worse during the last few weeks:

Several weeks ago, friends expressed concern that Taylor’s health had taken a dire turn. That left us reflecting on his legacy even as we hold out hope that Taylor will be on the Hall of Fame’s 25-man senior semifinalist list to be released next week.

Big news from the Big House!

Gary Moeller, the longtime assistant and head coach for the University of Michigan football program passed away Monday morning (July 11). Moeller, 81, spent 23 years associated with the Michigan football program. He was one of 11 coaches in school history to work with the program for more than 20 years, and one of five among those 11 individuals that served as head coach of the Wolverines (1990-94).

Moeller guided the Wolverines to four bowl game victories and a 44-13-3 overall record in his five years as head coach, including a win over Washington in the 1993 Rose Bowl. Moeller directed teams to three Big Ten Championships, five bowl appearances (1991 Gator, 1992 and 1993 Rose, 1994 Hall of Fame, and 1994 Holiday), and five straight finishes in the top 20 of the final national polls.

(Wiki) Jamey Rootes has died at the age of 55. Wording on the death notice points to suicide. Mr. Rootes was the former President of the Houston Texans from 2005 until retiring in 2021. He was also a former GM/CEO of multiple soccer teams, both MLS and NWSL.

The Houston Texans would not exist as they currently do today if not for this man and his work.

Could - and should - be posted in Hollywood thread.

Longtime Texas high school football coach Gary Gaines, who led Odessa Permian and was featured in the “Friday Night Lights” book and movie, died on Monday, his family confirmed.

He was 73.

Gaines died in Lubbock, Texas, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Gaines spent three decades coaching throughout Texas, though most notably at Odessa Permian from 1986-1989. Gaines went 47-6-1 during that stretch and led the team to a perfect season that ended with a state title in 1989.
