Brian Hewson, British athlete who won 1500m European Gold in 1958, as well as two commonwealth silvers, has died aged 89. He was alsoleading in the 1956 1500m final but got passed by four fellow competitors on the final straight. His 1960 Olympic was hampered nby an injury prior to the Games.

he's also remembered as one of the earliest runners to break 4 minutes for the mile, though could only finish third; prior to that race only Bannister and Landy had broken 4 minutes.

US Olympic shotputter, Bill Nieder reportedly dead aged 89. He won Bronze in 1956, and Gold in 1960. He also set three world records, including the first ever put beyond 20 metres. He tried boxing after his track career, but in his first competitive bout was knocked out and immediately quit the sport. Post retirement, he worked for 3M, developing artificial tracks and selling the first ever synthetic Olympic track to the 1968 Olympic organisers.

In 2011, it was reported that, aged 77, he helped subdue a passenger attempting to gain access to the cockpit during a flight.

Doesn't appear to be a Scavenger hunt pick.

Ercole Baldini no longer breathes, he was Olympic champion in 1956 in road cycling, the Italian died at the age of 89, there is no champion alive before 1958
of the modality (now the champion for the longest time is his compatriot Mário Zanin, champion in 1964, he is 82 years old) and the first of 5 Italians to be champion in that event, (the last was Paolo Bettini in 2004), also champion of the Giro d´Itália in 1958, in which he was also the winner who won the title the longest, a position now occupied by also Italian Franco Balmamion, 82 years old, champion in 62 and 63
In 1958 he was world champion in road racing too, and he was the longest-lived, although in 1959 André Darrigade of France was champion and was still alive at 93
years, but in terms of being champion for the longest time it was the Italian
