Deathlist On The Net

Recommended Posts

Its just a passing phase, it will settle down, eventually.

What's this in reference to, if it's celebrity deaths the general consensus is you're wrong.

Does anybody with power have access to traffic stats for yesterday and today to see how much a mention from the BBC increases our visitors.

Its not the first time the forum has been swamped by visitors after a 'significant death' and the forum traffic has settled down after.

Celebrity deaths are really what this place thrives on, the fact that we are on a run of them doesn't mean that it will continue in the same vein throughout the year.

Every reliable source says that we are only just hitting the tip of an iceberg of celebrity deaths as the golden generation of famous people reach that age where they start dying. Along with the thousands left from the silver generation before them were in for a DL paradise of a high profile celebrity death a day within the next few years.

To use that term 'reliable source' is a bit bollocks, isn't it. Its not like there is a whole stream of correspondents out there that have particular knowledge that certain individuals are going to die this year making 2016 a wank fest of celebrity deaths.

Bowie, Victoria Wood and Prince, to name just three have died at ages not considered to be particularly vunerable to death by the hand of the Reaper.

Id say that this year, so far, has been more unusual than previous years in so much that certain celebrities have died in their prime, they were not viewed as 'old' or vunerable to medical conditions.

This golden generation is no more golden than the next. We have a zillion celebrities born in the 1940s, zillions in the 1950s and ditto in the 1960s.

Shit happens

The fact they've all died so young means were hitting the start of the ONS death per 1000 for celebrities that fall into the three age groups that represent Victoria Wood, Prince and David Bowie. Not much TV and music produced many more superstars in the 60s and 70s than film did in the 40s and 50s, many much younger. Exhibit A:

strangely i remember a few people saying paul hunter's death drew a large amount of hate and attention at deathlist can't remember why .

There was nothing strange about it, sadly Paul Hunter, who was a very young man and prolific snooker player died of cancer at the age of 27. It was a tragic end for such a young man and many of us on here respected that and many of us mourned him. In those days the DL was on the Google search engine. I found my way here in 2004 by googling Fay Wray. Unfortunately people were googling 'Paul Hunter death' and we were one of the top hits on Google. It escalated from there, there was a thread about him and his death and it got to the stage people were seeing the thread and tracing the DeathList to the Grim Reaper and finding out his real name, occupation, phone number and address, It got pretty bad for a while.

After that the DL changed it's settings on Google to not be searched by the famous names we discuss, I believe some have slipped through the net.

We are not a site that wishes death on anyone at all, that is not our raisons d'être we are a site that respects death and primarily is a social area. Guessing who might die next year? well plenty of people do, they talk about it in workplaces all over the word, we use this website to do so.

It also didn't hurt that Paul Hunter was damn good looking young man. I thought we were going to suffocate under a crowd of hysterical girls.

Also the first post in the thread was along the lines of "that many tumours he's snookered", the spelling of his name had to be changed to let things calm down. The same was done for a Ms c a r before I joined.

We still appear to be attracting quite a lot of attention, over a hundred users on line at the mo. Just imagine how many we'd get if we all posted nude pics!

It's a cracking good read. It starts about here and gets much better over the following pages.

That actually made me do a laugh out loud, top work!

The fact remains, however, that my cock and balls are probably bigger than yours, despite the fact that I'm a LADY. With TITS and everything.

Step away from the steroids Lardy. Chyna's death introduced me to some very worrying parts of the internet.

Yeah but if he is one of those fat kids, that sit hunched infront of a screen all hours in their bedrooms, surrounded by wanked in socks and empty extra large bags of onion rings, well, his tits may well be bigger than yours.

Not quite on topic (but when has that ever stopped anyone).....but Episode 3, Series 2 of Yes Minister is called "The Death List".

After about 5 minutes of half-hearted searching I could find few references to Yes Minister on this site. Possibly the interested has waned from a deathlisting point of view as the show's 2 main characters have both been dead for some time. This leaves Derek Fowlds, Antony Jay and Johnathon Lynn (writers) as the only major players still kicking. John Nettleton (who played Sir Arnold) is also still alive.

Thank heavens for moral champions like The Daily Express, always ready to expose filth on the internet: The sick website predicting which celebrity will DIE NEXT

Story also reported in The Sun

for fuck sakes what a twat.
The Sun? The Sun? What the serious fuck?

I don't know much 'bout British media, but aren't they a tabloid?

They fucking write articles about celebrities having drug problems and other rumors...

but we're the jerks for playing a game of predictions.

Them cunts oughta shut the fuck up.

Newspapers eh? The interesting part for me was some of the commenters immediately having a bit of a go themselves.

I'm personally not in the business of predictions, as anyone who can review my history here can surely testify, fnah, fnah. Testify my brothers and sisters!

I like to think of this as a good information site. We often remember those people who are famous or infamous enough for members to care about, long after the mainstream media have lost interest in them and which same media often care so little that they fail to mention their passing, despite many people cherishing them in their hearts for a special memory. Many folk thus miss out on the chance to mourn, whilst here can provide an outlet at least. We care because the media don't have to, as I might put it.

I'm not saying we catch them all, but we are far better at reporting deaths and expressing ourselves accordingly.

It's a bit rich those two papers taking the moral high ground!

Can we have Richard (porn baron) Desmond & Rupert (all scousers are thieves) Murdoch on next year's list?

This was almost inevitable after the mention in the beeb, I actually said as much just got which rag would go for it wrong and the headline wrong:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-36108133

In case anyone's curious as to what BBC link. They seem to share our general assessment on the forums recently, I'm starting to wonder if Nick Serpel is actually a DL user. Ironically I read that article as a way to kill time while I couldn't get on to the site, got half way down and burst into uncontrollable laughter as it suddenly dawned on me why I couldn't get on the site.

I wonder if there's a DM article in this once they discover this site "The twisted interneters who predict the deaths of celebrities"

I might be wrong but I think we've had "bad" (I use the term loosely all press is good) press before and it's blown over. My response is I've learnt about the achievements of hundreds, if not thousands, of people they've probably never heard of through this site in three years. It's a shame that recognition has only arrived after their death but hey-ho. Nobody actively wants the celebrities who they picked in pools to die, we're just using common sense and a bit of nouse to say "it looks as though they might die." If 20 out of 20 of my picks in the DDP survived and maintained good health I'd be delighted at their resilience, given the reason they'd even made it into the list was that being a slim chance.

On another note, we've been online for over a (if not two) decade(s), so why are we suddenly news?
