It's hard to know where "Clara" or Louise Coleman actually starts as a companion. She first appears as Oswin Oswald in Aug 2012, then pops up again at Xmas 2012 in Victorian London, before finally getting on board in March 2013.

For the record, Lis Sladen started in December 1973 and left in October 1976. Janet Fielding entered the Tardis in February 1981 before deciding it wasn't fun any more in February 1984, three years later.

Then there's Frazier Hines, who started in December 1966 and left (with Wendy Padbury and Patrick Troughton) in June 1969, clocking up an incredible 116 episodes! Hamish Wilson appeared as Jamie in 2 episodes in 1969's The Mind Robber.

Is there a more worrisome browser notification pop up to receive than "YoungWillz has quoted you in British Science Fiction Series"? Nope, can't think of one.

SF special of Celebrity Pointless tonight has a few old DL forum favourites.

Team 1 was some youngsters from Harry Potter. Not that interesting.

Team 2 was Sandra Dickinson (Trillian from Hitchhikers Guide, ex Mrs Peter Davison) and actor John Duttine who should need no introduction (Day of the Triffids, etc). Somehow Duttine is now in his 70s!

Team 3 was Clive Mantle who only is 63 and Kiran Shah the midget actor from LOTR/Hobbit etc. The latter was in a seat and looking old.

Team 4 was Sophie Aldred (:D) and Carole Ann Ford, Classic Dr Who's last and first companions respectively. Ford is now 80, needed the dreaded chair, and appears to have lost a lot of weight since I last saw in interviews a few years ago.

I saw John Duttine on a train when we were travelling from Monaco to Cannes.

I think he knew that I recognised him. He looks a bit older in the flesh.

I saw Sandra Dickinson at a Doctor Who Exhibition. She asked to get in for free because she  was once married to Dr Who, spent ages staring at her ex husbands regeneration scene then whizzed round the rest very quickly. She was actually quite nice when we spoke  to her though.

Clive Mantle looked old and rather gaunt I thought. I used to really fancy him years ago.

Yes it was. Even weirder that she had her new husband with her, so the two of them were watching it.

She doesn't look too bad in that picture but I think she is avoiding scrutiny while William Russell lives and breathes.

There was a run down of the top ten oldest living Who actresses and writers on Twitter the other day CAF got nowhere near.

Claire Bloom didn't make the list and she worked with Charlie Chaplin

They list Wendy Danvers as born 1927 which seems...roughly accurate but I've not seen a source...

What you can do on television!

Not many sets, the special effects were ropey at best but the acting in an episodic show is truly what carries Sapphire & Steel through!

I have to say, the set for The Railway Station in particular is magnificent.

Yes, it is a standout. As is the Man with No Face (seriously, the cliffhanger to part 3 is a brilliant example of No Budget Horror done very creepily). And the last one, mostly because Edward de Souza is very creepy in it.

Hah. Aye, that's our PR. Cept the mum bit of course.

(Although one can enjoy somethings inherent creepiness without being scared of the thing, surely?)

Unfortunately, I am not sensible.:)

Well, there's nothing to indicate it is the same guy except the full name.

It does look like Philip Latham, a DDP Pick for me, has died if this death notice is anything to go by: http://announcements.telegraph.co.uk/deaths/242684/latham

Lord President Borusa in The Five Doctors.

Maybe msc or Bibliogryphon could use their contacts to confirm?

Interestingly his IMDB says he was living on Stow On The Wold in 2009 - mention of Stow Surgery in the Death Notice seems to confirm it is him?

One of our great character actors gone if so.

Yes, that information came off his daughter, Amanda, who replied to fans on BritMovie in 2009. He retired in 1989 having saved his money and lived happily and privately, basically.

The info in that obit does suggest that yes it is the actor, sadly.

Bugger.

Points for me perhaps in due course, but I'm really sad.

I can't seem to access the entire announcement. For me it cuts out at "He is survived by his daughter...".

Sad news anyway - he was a fine actor and was very memorable as Borusa in "The Five Doctors". I was always pleased he was still going, and was hoping maybe Toby Hadoke would get him to do an interview sometime!
