Nazi of SS

Recommended Posts

I just came across this Nazi: Hans Sommer, born 1914 and apparently still alive. We don't seem to have mentioned him anywhere on DeathList before now.

If Wikipedia is to be believed, Herr Sommer was too extreme even for the SS:

"In October 1941, unbeknownst to his superiors, Sommer helped plan an attack on seven synagogues in Paris, inspired by the 1938 pogrom, in collaboration with Eugène Deloncle.[1] A four week suspension of pay resulted for "SS-unwürdigen Verhaltens (SS-unworthy behaviour)" and he would not find promotion in the next three years."

The oldest male death camp survivor has passed away:

"A Jehovah's Witness and conscientious objector who refused to serve in the German armed forces, the Austrian - born on July 23, 1905 in Strobl near Salzburg - was deported by the Nazis in 1939 and survived the concentration camps of Buchenwald, Niederhagen and Ravensbrueck before he was released in 1943 to carry out forced labour.

He weighed just 28 kilograms upon his release.

Called up again in 1945, he escaped and managed to hide in the mountains."

Horst Tappert's secret past as a Nazi has been revealed: :( :( :(

EDIT: silly Android tablet won't let me paste the link tonight but you can find it easily enough. With Rolf an alleged nonce and Horst a Nazi my world of innocence is falling apart. :(

Nazi war criminal Laszlo Csatary is still alive in Budapest at the age of 97. "No, no. Go Away," the paper quoted him as saying at the door to his apartment.

"Something has to be done because he's in good health at 97... but this could change very quickly."

Charged over war crimes.

"BERLIN -- A German court says a 92-year-old former member of the Nazis' Waffen SS will go on trial in September on allegations he executed a Dutch resistance fighter in 1944.

Dutch-born Siert Bruins, who is now German, already served time in Germany in the 1980s for the wartime murder of two Dutch Jews.

The Hagen state court said in a statement Monday he would go on trial Sept. 2 on charges he killed resistance fighter Aldert Klaas Dijkema in September 1944.

Bruins and alleged accomplice August Neuhaeuser, who has since died, are accused of driving Dijkema to an isolated spot and then shooting him at least four times. They later reported Dijkema had tried to escape.

Bruins volunteered for the SS after the Nazis overran his homeland in 1941."

Yes, completely one-sided. I can't believe they didn't have someone represent the opposing "he's not dead, he's just resting" point of view.
