What exactly is this supposed to be a total complete and accurate list of? And where was it retrieved from.

(My grammar teacher said never end a sentence with a preposition, I just did it twice :-?)

Aha Sir C, I'm glad you asked.

By no means is it supposed to be a full list. It has been compiled from a previous list posted on this site, then I added in references from other posts on this thread and further additions were made as and when they were reported upon in the press, etc. Interesting to note the number who have died this year already.

Simply forms a base for discussion and for those interested in adding to their deadpools in the future (some are already in the DDP this year, for example). Any further additions are welcome, if you know of names that can be added in.

I didn't know if there was some lists of Nazi officers or soldiers etc out there somewhere. Not like someone going to say 'yoo-hoo you forgot my/my father's/grandfather's Nazi name, and he lives at 10 Upping Street'i

Is it really fair to go after lower ranked nazis who probably had a choice between death and doing what they were told after all these years? I get a lot if them are bastards but some will genuinely have been misguided and were talking a lifetime ago now. Obviously the higher-ups were bastards but is your average concentration guard anymore a nazi than the rookie cop who hits stop and search targets by following advice on which groups to target fron higher up is a racist?

Those are several different questions.

Did those concentration camp guards have a choice? Yes they did, when they joined the SS (concentration camps were run exclusively by the SS). At one time they must have applied for the job and they must have known that those places weren't for entertainment.

Whether it's fair to go after them after all those years: difficult to say. There's no statute of limitation on war crimes for political reasons, reasons I appreciate. Actually trying those men doesn't seem to serve justice, though.

I don't believe we have ever mentioned Gudrun Burwitz (born 1929) on this forum: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gudrun_Burwitz

She is Himmler's daughter and is, by all accounts, a rather unpleasant lady as she remains devoted to her dad's memory and is [allegedly] very active in Neo-Nazi circles, running an underground charity for SS affiliates called "Stille Hilfe" (Silent Help).

Hmm... perhaps someone could start a theme team of Gudruns with her and Gudrun Ure. How many other notable ones are out there? :P

German article on "the last offenders of Auschwitz";

http://www.tagesspiegel.de/politik/ns-verbrechen-wer-sind-die-letzten-taeter-von-auschwitz/12872360.html

Mostly just biographical details about Reinhold Hanning and Hubert Zafke. Zafke gets some more obitability because the newspaper is asking "Did he meet Anne Frank?"

There are two more possible names: SS-guardsman Ernst T. (93 years old) and SS radio operator Helma M. (91 years old).

He's in the german evening news. The trial is limited to 2 hrs per day. He isn't able to do more, they say. To me he looks remarkably stable, for a 94-year old.
