Hans Lipschis, an Auschwitz guard, has dementia; he was declared unfit for trial because of it back a couple years.

He was interviewed in 2009, so the German wiki is more likely to be correct. Though I don't know when in 2009...

She was a woman actually...

From my understanding, that interview was filmed in either 1999 or 2000. It was discussed in this forum back in 2004 -

https://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=19001&start=30

And the famous "did I make a mistake?" question was quoted in this article from 2005

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/nazi-she-devils-566055

So it's safe to say this interview couldn't have been recorded later. The person who added the "2009" on that footage clearly made a mistake.

Ah, I could definitely tell she's female now. For some reason, she reminded me of Roddy Piper. I don't know why...

I think that 2009 date was referring to when it was aired on a certain German (state?) TV channel, but you are right that she's likely dead. I guess this topic is gonna be obsolete in about 10 years at most, since even the youngest and longest-lived perpetrators would be dead for good by then.

Now he should be definitely on the Deathlist next year.

Actually, that seems quite the opposite tbh...

There are death notices here http://www.trauerforum-altkreis.de/Traueranzeige/Fritz-Jauss for Fritz Jauss born 1917 who died in 2014. Will accept that.

Can't find anything more definite on Pistor though. Any German readers with info?

Found two obits from 2011 for someone named Ernst-August Pistor. Pretty sure it's the same guy - born in 1920, was held by the Americans for two years after the war...

Interesting. The article I read in 2015 really glossed over him, but talked about him as though he was still alive.

1920 was a "best guess" at his birthdate - the articles all refer to his conviction in 2011 as him being aged 91. If he died in the July as above, it was only a couple of months after his conviction (which he was appealing), which I would have thought would have engendered some newspaper coverage, but alas I can't find anything.

I'll stick this as a provisional on the list fwiw.

Genuine question. Was Hardegen actually a Nazi/SS guy, or just a ranking U-boat/soldier guy? If the latter, bit mean to have him next to folk who ordered mass murders, be like comparing Winkle Brown to the chap who OK'd the firebombing of Dresden or something.

I have no idea. The list was initially compiled from folk mentioned on this thread previously.

Hardegen was just a good U-boot commander and a great soldier. He was always kind ad respectful to crews he captured, saved survivors from the ships he sank and brought them to neutral countries if possible. In fact he was a good man and a reluctant Nazi, who criticized Hitler directly while having dinner with him and was punished for that by Jodl. Towards the end of the war he was in hospital due to illness and did not fight against English in France. Overall he never took part in any atrocity of WWII and he was prisoned by British because they mistaked him for another official.

The only fault of Hardegen was being on the losing side of the war. he would be celebrated as a hero if he was British or American. I'm glad he is still alive at 104 and may God bless him .

For Hans Sommer: There's no proof that he's alive since 1965.

For Günther Schwägermann: https://www.feldgrau.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1900

Günther Schwägermann was the one-eyed adjutant to Dr. Goebbels. His last rank was, I believe, SS-Hauptsturmführer effective 30.7.1942; SS-nr. was 312231. Schwägermann was born 24.7.1915 survived the war and died quite a few years ago.
