Jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal dead at 92. DDP miss, was picked last year.

I had him last year! My primary reason for dropping him this year was that I'm very bad at DDP.

Lovely interview with the BBC here from 2016: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-latin-america-37136431

I can't seem to find any source that confirms this unless anyone else on here has.

Pianist George Winston died on Sunday, June 4 after a decade-long battle with cancer. He was 73 years old. The news was shared via his website in a long note to fans, noting "Throughout his cancer treatments, George continued to write and record new music, and he stayed true to his greatest passion: performing for live audiences while raising funds for Feeding America to help fight the national hunger crisis along with donating proceeds from each of his concerts to local food banks."

This has to be the quietest that a superstar death has ever been. He owned the jazz charts here for at least 8-10 years early 80s to early 90s. iirc

Peter Brötzmann issued a statement reagarding his health condition, it reads as follows:

TIME FOR SOME FACTS:
YES, I HAD A COMPLETE BREAKDOWN COMING HOME FROM WARSAW AND LONDON AND YES, EMERGENCY, RE-ANIMATION, INTENSIVE CARE AND YES, OUT OF HOSPITAL SINCE 10 DAYS AND TRYING TO ORGANISE MY DAILY LIFE AND NO, I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE FUTURE WILL LOOK LIKE AND NO, I WON’T BE ABLE TO PLAY IN THE (NEAR) FUTURE, MEANS NO TRAVEL AND NO STAGE. NO GOOD NEWS, MY FRIENDS, BUT IT IS HOW IT IS AND YES, I WILL DO MY BEST TO STAY WITH YOU IN WHAT FORM AND FUNCTION EVER. ALL GOOD AND NOTHING TO COMPLAIN, BEST TO YOU ALL b

I read about a new live recording of a John Coltrane concert  and wondered how many jazz musicians that played with Coltrane are still alive. Wikipedia gave me the names of Albert Heath (88, who played on his first album als a band leader)  Julius Priester  (88) and Reggie Workman (86). He played (once) with Sonny Rollins as well. But how many more are there?

Edit: Found some more: Kenny Burrell (91), Louis Hayes (86), Roy Haynes (98), Archie Shepp (86), Carlos Ward (83).

Aren't John Waddington's and Mark Stewart's deaths make him the third?

Sad news. He was a masterful musician, not only great saxophonst but also pianist, clarinetist, bassist and percussionist.
