What's the etiquette for removing deceased people from you Facebook friends' list?

Just delete them.

They are not going to wonder why, are they? ;)

Does it not allow a status update? (obviously not from the individual).

No real etiquette. Accounts can be made into memorial accounts on the person or a family members requested.

I can request a memorial account and see how people react to my death? Cool.

Has anyone ever been successful in getting work through Freelancer? Or is it a pile of shite filled with Nigerians asking you to deliver totem poles full of special powder between countries?

I usually do, but the option was missing. Just had a "more info" button which linked to Firefox Q&A. Dunno if it was linked to the Avast I found on my laptop all of a sudden, but I uninstalled that and the forums returned soon after.

Chrome didn't give me the option to continue, I had to use IE to get the option.

Hearing aids: I've known I'd need hearing aids someday for years, and that 'someday' has come, alas. That means it's research time. Does anyone here have them? If so, is there anything you think I should know about the process? Do you have opinions about bad brands/good brands; any red flags; things to look for in a hearing specialist, etc.?

I've a pal who has used one for years.

I would ask him, but ironically, I haven't heard from him in months.

8/50 seems pretty terrible. What is wrong with this system?

Because many of the people they selected were bad picks in the first place. They're not all terrible (many of them are actually good picks), but most of them are probably going to see 2017. If they haven't selected the likes of Lester Piggott and Stan Lee...

I guess all committee work has in common the tendency towards... how should I put it? The lowest common denominator? I guess that's why Americans think they need a dictator. Sad.

This may well be the worst place to ask this question but here goes,

What's the best way to get started with exercising without overloading your body when you've lived a basically sedentary life for a considerable period of time (we're talking years here) - gym? (if so what machines/weights?) running? Any good diet plans to follow to stop eating crap reasonably cheaply?

The Gym will kill you.

Walk instead of getting the bus, cycle instead of walking.

Walk up and down a flight of stairs til you are puffed out then increase the amount of times daily.

You can still eat crap but halve your portions.

Ofc with the proviso consult your gp first ;)......

The Newcastle University Diet is tough but excellent - helps reset the pancreas and gives you oodles of energy if you can stick the first week; then swim - takes the weight off joints and less chance of injury. My grandmother lived to 99 and swore blind it was walking that keep her so trim and chipper...that and a big glass of red of an evening!

I personally prefer outdoor exercising to indoor, so I would recommend exploring your environmental options. Do you live near a park or forest? Or do you live in a city area with limited space for pedestrians? I happen to live really close to a forest (we have lots of them here) as well as a lake (lots of them too) so I try to take the time to jog/run there for maybe 3-4 times per week.

Generally, the main obstacle is finding the motivation to stay physically active. In my case, the cold and the snow tends to lower the motivation. Just look at some pictures I took a few weeks ago.

Then there are the occasional duck crowds, but they're not so bad once you get to know 'em.

So, it is tempting sometimes not to run in this type of climate, but I still do it.

In your case, Deathray, I would suggest the perhaps cliche answer that you have to take baby steps in the beginning. Gradually, your body will become more and more accustomed to physical activity. If you do too much at once, your whole system will interpret it as something unwanted and you might relapse quicker.

To tie in this with deathpooling, you could pretend that each excessant pound/kilo is an entry in a deathpool. So, if you wanna lose 20 pounds in total (just an example), you could cross off each lost pound like we do in our signatures. "5 down, 15 to go".

Or summat.
