Carl Karcher of Carl's Jr. fame dead.

I believe his death marks the first person to die this year who was picked on DDP in 2007, but not 2008.

Not the soldier in the picture. If you read the link it says:

"The famous photo does not show Minin but a Georgian soldier. It was not taken at the actual event."

A bit like the Iwo Jima picture although in that case it was the men who raised the flag that received all the subsequent publicity.

Rod Allen I know Phantom posted this yesterday but was his condition reported widely before this? He'd have been a popular pick if more of us had known.

Bloody idiots. I recall mentioning to the missus last week that mountain rescue were warning people not to climb Hellvellyn as conditions were extremely dangerous. We climbed it in spring, and that was fairly risky, seeing as I'm no expert. While theres snow up there, theres always quite a risk, and to totally ignore expert advice is just ridiculous.

Let's round up a few of our picks and take them climbing in the Lake District.

I already mentioned it in the DDP thread, but I should do so here too: Brad Renfro, American actor, dead at 25.

Very sad, especially at such a young age, but unfortunately not terribly surprising.

Richard Knerr, the man who gave us the Hula Hoop, the Frisbee, the superball, silly string, the Water Wiggly sprinkler, and the Slip ’N Slide water slide, has died.

It should be some funeral.
