Tony Book looking old and doddery before the FA Cup final, reminding folk he is still alive.

Must confess I thought he'd died several years ago

One from last week that went under the radar: Manfred Burgsmüller, a German striker of the 70s and 80s. He was Bundesliga top scorer in the the 79/80 season and also won three caps for the national side. Of additional interest is he became an American football kicker after retirement, and is believed to be the oldest professional amfo player in history - he was 52 when he last turned out for the Rhein Fire in NFL Europe.

From what I can see with a quick(ish) glance, some of the oldest living home nations international footballers. Not convinced some of those Irish/Scots are still going, and there must be gaps in the Welsh list. But it is what it is.

Hmm, so likely in a life-threatening condition then but also likely to survive and not likely to return to work.

Former Syrian U21 international goalkeeper Abdul Baset al-Sarout dead at 27. He left the game to become one of the lead commanders in the Bayada Martyrs Battalion, fighting against Assad's army. Should have just opened a pub or advertised crisps.

Such sad news - Justin Edinburgh was only 49.

Really sad news, remember him at Spurs more than his time as a manager. 49 is no age to die always shocking when someone so young and an athlete dies. Sky Sports saying he died of a heart attack. RIP

Notice he played in the 91 FA cup final. Is anyone up to finding the last FA cup final played whereby all the players involved are still alive? I would guess early/mid 70s?

And the answer if anyone cares is 1980. All the players from the 1979 final are still with us apart from one unused sub. 1982 is the oldest final where every single player in the squads and managers are still alive.

Tributes have poured in for a non-league football stalwart who passed away last night at the age of 58 from bile duct and pancreatic cancer.

Steve Essex, who was known as ‘Esso’, played at centre-back for Hednesford Town, Stafford Rangers, Rushall Olympic and Wolverhampton United.  He was part of the famous Hednesford side that reached the fourth round of the FA Cup in the 1996/97 season.  A tribute issued by the club read: “All at Hednesford Town Football Club are saddened to hear of the passing of former centre-half Steve Essex at the age of just 58.  “Steve, or as he was better known among the Pitman faithful ‘Esso’, arrived at the Cross Keys in the early 1990s and would be influential in the clubs rise into the Football Conference – scoring one of the goals in the 3-0 title clinching victory against Leek Town in April 1995.

A MASSIVE HIT for Miss Boudicca in DL Cup play.

Luis Enrique, former Barcelona manager, stands down as Spain manager for "serious family matters".

A quick scuttle around Spanish twitter and Barca fan pages reveals either this matter is blood cancer and he is apparently in a bad way OR his daughter is seriously ill.

Sadly it seems so through I have also seen it be said that it is his daughter not him that is sick.

Literally just got my edit in there after noticing some backtracking of sources!
