He transferred to BFC Dynamo when BSG Energie Cottbus were relegated to the second division DDR-Liga after the 1975–76 DDR-Oberliga season. He played for the East German national team, appearing in the unsuccessful qualifying campaigns for the 1982 and 1986 World Cups and the 1984 European Championship. Sorry to hear he's unwell, but it doesn't look good. Reading FC's most recent death (as it were) is currently Neale Cooper who played briefly in the early 1990's. He was an Icelandic football player, sports reporter and commentator, he won six caps for the Icelandic national football team between 1962 and 1964.
