Daniel Leclercq, who managed RC Lens to the French title, the only one in their history, has died aged 70 of a pulmonary embolism.

Known affectionately as "The Druid", RC Lens would have a spectacular period of success in his time in charge which included the aforementioned league title but a French Cup final the same season the won the league and a Coupe de la Ligue victory the season after as well as being the only side to defeat Arsenal in the Champions League when they temporarily called Wembley Stadium home.

Aye, a fairly sympathetic consideration from Carlisle's Evening News and Star - old timers recall him as being a welcome change because Bobby Moncur, his predecessor was a bit pedestrian in his tactics. Of course, that promising youngster we had from Newcastle - Peter Beardsley - may have made a difference to Harvey's results

A Ron gone. 11 months after Ron Smith dies unobited, ...and its goodnight from him gets its first hit!

As a Brummie, I should also acknowledge Ron's unique achievement of being manager of Aston Villa, Birmingham City and West Brom. I hope (and expect they will) all three clubs would pay suitable tribute.

Great manager for us Villa fans, but sadly being ill for some time made him low hanging fruit for a DL pick.  Tomorrow will be quite emotional.

Manchester City's capitulation at the hands of their local rivals was apparently enough for Roy Cheetham, City's first ever substitute (for Mike Summerbee), who died in his sleep Sunday night, aged 79.

A timely reminder that Summerbee will be 79 in six days time - and remains obitable

Ah man, I always liked him. Was always linked to a job at the Cobblers but, thankfully for his sanity, he never took one.

Philip Osondu, player of the tournament at the 1987 U17 World Cup (when it was still called the U16 World Championship) dead at 48. Never made it big as a professional, like so many other players who won the equivalent award at other tournaments - most notably his fellow countryman who won it in 1991, Nii Lamptey.
