John Haselden has died of dementia complications. Haselden was a player for Rotherham, Doncaster and Mansfield but is better remembered by both Huddersfield and Reading for his work as a coach, physio and caretaker manager. The news report focuses on Huddersfield but he spent eight years at Reading during some of our best times at the old Elm Park.

Gregorio Benito Rubio, known as "Goyo Benito", a decorated central defender who spent the majority of his career with Real Madrid has died aged 73.

Goyo played more than 400 times for Real, scoring twice between 1966 and 1982 with a 2 year loan spell at Rayo Vallecano in the first two years in which he made 43 scoreless appearances.

In his time with Real he won La Liga and the Spanish Cup six times each and was also part of the 1981 Real Madrid side who lost the European Cup final to Liverpool in Paris.

He was also one of only two players, the other being José Martinez Sanchez "Pirri" to be personally bestowed with the Laureada by Santiago Bernabeu himself for his contributions to the club.

I think we can't rule out the possibility in the uk of footballers getting killed in riots over anger with no pay cuts for them.

I misread the flash notice on this one as Louis Thereoux - interviewer - jailed for attempted murder and fell of my chair in disbelief....

It's some nutter he interviewed by the name of Joe Exotic. Might kill himself so good for here.

Curious....

This is a previous forum mention of Joe Exotic, who since Deathray's post, achieved global fame as main character of Netflix' quarantine hit "Tiger King".

He's now hospitalized with Coronavirus:

Often forgotten that he scored the goal that kept Luton up and sent Man City down in 1983, prompting that David Pleat dance across the Maine Road pitch

EDIT: Spanish media reporting that cause of death was NOT coronavirus related and he had been sick for a number of week. Inevitably given that he died in Madrid, people started to wonder

Pancreatitis, and not COVID, is the cause of death.

Rather underrated manager in his time. And you can probably count the number of folk who worked for Barca and Real and was liked by both fans on one hand.

Frits Flinkefleugel, who was part of the AFC DWS who won Eredivisie in 1964, has died aged 80.

He also won 11 caps for the Dutch national team.

DWS made the quarter-finals of the European Cup the following year, they're an amateur team nowadays and are, astonishingly, the last team in the Netherlands to win Eredivisie whose colours weren't red and white.

I presume the BBC saying after a long illness is code for not Covid-19.
