Art For Death's Sake

Wayne is one of my favourite painters!

There are hundreds of posts reporting him dead on FB, many from reputable sources within the art world.

Some were as long ago as 12 hours. I think it's a Janice Long situation – poor timing of death on or around Christmas Day. The U.S. media will likely pick up on it when it gets to evening time over there. Maybe the NY Times will come straight in with an obit?

I guess it was the cheek of it that won him the award.

Canadian artist Jo Manning (wiki), celebrated her 98th birthday last month... and then offed herself this month.

Reminds me of the British-born Australian centenarian who offed himself a few years ago after flying to Switzerland to do so. Can't remember his name now.

Juhani Palmu, 77, wants to keep painting as he has commissions that he "has" to do. Wants a prosthesis for this purpose.

This guy is already quite a miracle. He has been in a wheelchair for over ten years due to a ministroke, heart problems, diabetes and on top of all this he has battled urethral cancer, bladder cancer, prostate cancer and survived two house fires. And still keeps smoking in bed.

Juhani Palmu hospitalised after sudden deterioration in his health.

This doesn't surprise me. The last tweet on his account had been sent out by a family member January 25th, on his behalf. A more recent 'GoFundMe' update indicated he wasn't well enough for video chats.

Drop a line to the Metro and the Guardian obits, but Yahoo might be your best bet if the New York or Washington press get a hold.

I will see what unfolds. Metro certainly might be worth a shot. I'll get a feel for it in the next day or two, if the death is on anybody's radar. Thanks for the advice.

I'm the other Dan Lacey DDP picker. I definitely inflated in my head how QO worthy he was, hopefully something comes through.

Would benefit me in Hartlepool also!

U.S. media now covering it. He was 61 (so born c. 1960) – which is info missing from his DDP entry.

May just squeeze a QO. Pancake porn painting is defo the level of shite I'd expect the Guardian's culture ppl to be interested in.

I suggested the name last year, but didn't know about the Paisley Park connection. So the Star Tribune obit was always a certainty, and I underestimated the obitability. However, the obit has not been copy/pasted to yahoo yet and any other obit is rather unlikely, I'd say.
