Good spending the inheritance innings, then...but Clarissa Eden (101 not out) can better that since her other half pegged out in 1977

Was discussing her with our youngest lately, the context being speculating about events that would make a good two-hander play. For those struggling with the maths here that story involves a 17 year old marrying a 93 war veteran purely because said veteran couldn't repay kindness so - basically - offered up his war pension as bait if they married. I'm assuming the wedding night was fairly quiet:rolleyes: The 17 year old  then went on to live to 101.

The wife of journalist Martin O’Hagan - the only journalist killed during the Troubles - has died.

Marie O’Hagan passed away peacefully in hospital on April 22.

Marie O’Hagan had been with her husband, a journalist with the Sunday World, when he was targeted as they walked back from a night out in Lurgan on September 28, 2001.

Here’s a stunner: No one has ever been charged with his murder, suspected to have been carried out by cowards of the Loyalist Volunteer Force (LVF).

He was quite reliant on her in his later years. Horrible, Roger Ebert-esque type jaw cancer.

Earlier this week, Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema died. Resistance hero, managed to escape to England in 1941, flew 70 sorties over enemy territory in a Spitfire.

The Royal Dutch House is in mourning over him.

His wrote his autobigraphy which was later put to film, to great acclaim. Still one of my favorite films.

True hero and all around nice chap. R.I.P.

Karin Hazelhoff Roelfzema, widow to Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema (1917-2007) has passed away. She was 93 years old.

As you might know, Erik was a Dutch student who became a resistance fighter during WW2, eventually sailing to London and becoming one of Queen Wilhelmina's main assistants. He became well known as the "Soldier of Orange".

Besides being an editor and advisor to Erik during the writing of his autobiography (which was made into a film by Paul Verhoeven in 1977 as well as a musical which has been on stage since 2010), Karin was an interior designer and one of the founders of Ulu La'au, the Waimea Nature Park in Hawaii.

The couple married in November 1958 and had been living in Hawaii since the 1970's, which Karin continued to do after her husbands death.

From 2018, we missed the death of Eve Tetley, widow of Nigel Tetley - the first man to circumnavigate the world solo in a trimaran and the second famous person to die of a stranglewank (after Albert Dekker).
