Golden Age actress and contralto singer Marcy McGuire (wiki) supposedly died August 7th in Palm Desert, California, at the age of 95.

Looks like it's the family who edited the page as a way to try and get the news out. *sigh*

Also the widow of actor Wally Cassell (wiki), who died in April 2015, aged 103.

If true, this is not only very sad news, but also quite shocking that the media have ignored this. She was a pretty big name for RKO at the time and was showcased to star amongst many a famous name; Lucille Ball, Frank Sinatra, James Stewart and Dean Martin. I suppose the fact she retired so young is why she's been forgotten about somewhat.

It will get picked up. Family’s fault for not issuing a death notice or informing media.

I’m more concerned about b-movie leading lady June Kenney. Died in June and nothing. Again, same story. No death notice issued online or in local paper.

Another Hollywood Golden Age actress appears to have died some days ago according to a credible looking edit (now reverted).

Gloria Warren (wiki), who lived in L.A. under her married name Gloria Warren Gold, supposedly died there on September 11th, aged 95.

Well in the last 24 hours, a Wiki admin has deleted:

The list of Hollywood Golden Age survivors
The list of notable living WWII veterans
The list of surviving veterans of the Spanish Civil War

Never mind the fact that they were informative, constructive, unique and 1000s of ppl took interest and edited them over the years, the admin opted to delete due to his dubious interpretation of several Wiki policies.

Irritating much.

Typical Murican thick headed mentality.

I fear for the oldest state leaders and the living centenarians list.

Noticed this a few days ago. Apparently the work of a new wikipedia user (joined last year) called "dronebogus" who seems to be obsessed with deleting pages that do not perfectly fit the Wikipedia policy.

Defends this by saying that "the lists will be pointless in 10 years" but the thing is that they are not pointless yet.

How stupid. The surviving silent film actors page is gone too and there were only two or three left on that page. Indeed, why didn't they just keep those pages around until the last one has died? Except for the Golden Age of Hollywood one (youngest is in their early-60's) couldn't take too long anyway.

That's rubbish.  Kept updated with dates of death, they would still be a useful reference showing who the last survivors were.

Ok, so the lists for oldest living baseball players, Catholic bishops/cardinals, U.S. Governors, and U.S. Cabinet members have just been deleted too.

U.S. Senators and U.S. House of Representatives members are nominated too and look set to go.

The UK Prime Ministers one survived the chop because enough users spoke out against its deletion.

I imagine cricketers and professional wrestlers will be next though. Maybe world leaders and monarchs too.

These lists can, thankfully, be pulled back up if you Google them because there are carbon copies of Wiki under other names, but they won’t be available that way forever. I would suggest someone creates a thread for “masterlists” and copies them there so we can keep track of individuals that way and update ourselves.

I’m already maintaining dozens of lists on here and I don’t really want to add too much to that load. Anyone want to volunteer, or alternatively we could split them amongst users so ppl take 1 or 2 each and we just manage them centrally in the same thread? Or should they go in the thread relevant to the topic itself (problem with that being we can’t always pin them to page one, and so they inevitably get buried in random pages over time).

Thoughts?

Yes, we have to do something. This is pure terrorism. All these lists are useful for us and can't be lost.
