People Who Are Dead According To Wikipedia...

Recommended Posts

Mwepu's got a very long history section on his Wiki, beyond his short career would suggest, because of a Wiki editorial war a few years back about his country of birth. Apparently him being born in Lusaka, trained in Zambia, and playing for the Zambian national team wasn't enough proof for some Wiki editors that he wasn't Kenyan instead!

Yes, I saw it on Facebook several days ago and sent it to someone who is working on an obituary for him.

An edit today to the wiki page of Italian journalist Sergio Borelli (b. 1923) says he died back on 17 Sep 2021.

Somewhat surprising given his prominence.

 @drol ?

EDIT: Never mind. Found an obituary via the Facebook page for his documentary.

Ah, 85 the product of two prime numbers (5 and 17) as William will confirm. Oh, he’s dead.

British singer, actor entertainer etc. Dennis Lotis (wiki) died today, aged 97, according to an unsourced edit on there.

Doesn't look like vandalism. Big name. I would expect an obit from Times, Telegraph, Guardian, maybe even the BBC.

EDIT: A pick for 2 teams in the DDP.

It was mentioned on the Deaths in 2023 page that  Makoto Itoh, Japanese economist and a professor emeritus of the University of Tokyo has died aged 86 but I can’t find a source.

There's a linked source I believe, otherwise it wouldn't be there.

And since I added him I know there is.

Dutch-Israeli economic historian Benjamin de Vries (wiki) supposedly died on 11 Feb, aged 99.

I think it was @arghton who predicted that a lot of 1923 names would fall before reaching their 100th in 2023.

So far this year, from the names who had existing English language Wiki pages we've had Benjamin de Vries, David Oreck, Robert Geddes, Eileen Sheridan, Ruth Adler Schnee, Mary Ellen Hawkins, Elliot Valenstein, William Frank, Shantabai Kamble, Isaac Trachtenberg, and Graham Winteringham.

Also Wally Campo (who didn't have a Wiki page until after his death but he was on our radar).

And another one... 1923er Howard R. Lamar (wiki), 21st President of Yale University (1992–1993), supposedly dead at 99.

Also some tributes on Twitter.
